What Happened to Bachelor Pad’s Gia Allemand? Inside the Beloved Reality Star’s Tragic Death
Gia Allemand had an infectious smile and vibrant personality that shined throughout Bachelor Nation. Fans fell in love with the New York native after her reality TV debut during season 14 of The Bachelor in 2010 and were heartbroken when she died three years later.
How Did Bachelor Pad’s Gia Allemand Die?
Gia died by apparent suicide at her home in New Orleans in 2013. She took her life after getting into an argument with boyfriend Ryan Anderson, according to a report by ABC News, who obtained court documents.
According to the paperwork, the former NFL player told Gia that he was no longer in love with her upon dropping her off at her apartment complex. Later that night, Gia’s mother, Donna Micheletti, called Ryan and asked him to check on Gia at her house because she was worried “something was wrong” with her daughter.
Upon arriving at Gia’s residence, Ryan told officials that he found her with a cord “wrapped around her neck many times.” According to the report, Gia wrote a note that read, “Mom gets everything.” It was found next to her body.
A neighbor called 911 and once the first responders arrived on the scene they performed CPR on Gia before transporting her to University Medical Center in New Orleans. Gia was put on life support for two days before being taken off and dying on August 14, 2013.
“Due to a critical loss of brain and organ function, life support was withdrawn today,” Gia’s family wrote in a statement the day she died. “Ms. Allemand passed away peacefully with her mother, boyfriend, and other life-long friends by her side. As a practicing Christian, Gia did receive the sacrament of last rites.”
How Far Did Gia Allemand Get on ‘The Bachelor’ Season 14?
Gia made it to the final three during Jake Pavelka’s season of The Bachelor alongside contestants Vienna Girardi and Tenley Molzahn. Not only did her sweet soul capture the hearts of viewers, but her attitude after her post-fantasy suite elimination solidified her spot in Bachelor Nation’s favorites.
After Jake sent Gia home before the Bachelor season 14 finale, Gia appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show – and talked nothing but highly of Jake and his final two women.
“I think Tenley would be the obvious choice because they have so much in common,” Gia told Ellen at the time. “But Vienna, when they’re together – from being on the 2-on-1 date with her – it just goes. They just go.”
Gia later gushed that she “like[d] Vienna a lot and [thought] she’s a really good person.”
Jake reacted to Gia’s death via a statement from his publicist, Charmaine Blake, saying, “We have lost an angel and a very dear friend.”
Gia Allemand Starred on ‘Bachelor Pad’
Gia made her return to the silver screen shortly after returning home from The Bachelor. Alongside some of her former costars, Gia joined the season 1 cast of Bachelor Pad in 2010.
Despite dominating and winning the pie eating comPetition during week 2, Gia was eliminated the following week.
Fans Celebrate Gia Allemand After Her Death
People grieved Gia’s death, but have continued her legacy by shining a light on her best moments. In 2020, a Reddit user shared how much they love Gia and uploaded a clip of the late ABC star from her 2-on-1 date with Vienna and Jake.
“Gia was such a shining star. She was so kind and her high-pitched voice was the cutest. She was my dad and my’s favorite contestant ever,” the person wrote. “We really thought she would be the next Bachelorette. Here’s a cute video of her being honest and real with Jake. It’s so crazy looking through her Instagram. It’s like a time capsule to 2013. Can’t believe it’s been that long.”
