After Taylor Swift struck a pose on Instagram with Blackpink‘s Lisa in March while wearing a now sold-out seafoam green Anine Bing New York sweatshirt, the pullover became inescapable.

INFLuencers all over TikTok started sporting the simple sweats and entire Manhattan neighborhoods were seemingly overrun with the outerwear, with stars like Lucy Hale and Rachel Bilson showing off the designer’s wares.

However, some fashion fans were left absolutely shocked when they realized the cotton hoodies cost up to $220 after a viral TikTok pointed out the surprisingly high price points.

The sweatshirts are emblazoned with the designer’s name or chic cities – but many people didn’t think they worth hundreds, despite iNFLuencers buying them up.

Anine Bing, pronounced An-een-uh, is a Danish designer based in Los Angeles who previously ran a fashion blog in Sweden

New Zealand-based content creator EMMA Stevens shared a TikTok and said she just realized something and is ‘shocked to her core.’

She noticed people have been wearing ‘pretty plain’ hoodies with the brand name emblazoned on the front.

‘I don’t even know how to pronounce it,’ the creator continued – the Sydney Morning Herald clarified it’s pronounced An-een-uh in a story titled ‘The brand that’s too cool to be mispronouncing.’

EMMA thought it was ‘another Whitefox situation’ and then she realized ‘people are paying upwards of $400 for a hoodie,’ asking her followers, ‘Can someone please tell me what is so special about these hoodies?’

Viewers had strong thoughts about the high price tag, commenting, ‘They slap on a name on a 10 dollar item and people are so desperate to fit in that they’ll actually fall for it,’ and joking, ‘They look like the hoodies you get at tourist traps.’

‘I’m in a different tax bracket y’all, this is the first I’ve heard of this brand,’ one commenter claimed.

‘Even if I was a millionaire I don’t think I’d pay that much for a hoodie,’ another person announced.

Some people brought up equally expensive basics brands, with one joking, ‘Wait until you hear about Golden Goose,’ where simple, worn-out looking sneaks retail up to $575.

One content creator on X, previously Twitter, agreed with the sentiment, tweeting, ‘I want an Anine Bing hoodie but that price lowkey caught me by surprise idk.’

Another person wrote, ‘We all understand a what a hoodie that hoodies is right? Ok listen to me, Anine Bing does not hoodie sorry to break it to you. And for $400? Bye be so fr.’

A critic responded, ‘Her line looks like Brandy Melville for the girls who worked at brandy in 2014 and are now working corporate jobs. And I LOVE Brandy but not worth the price in the slightest.’

Despite the astronomical prices for a cotton hoodie, it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere – especially since Swift’s sold out.
