Sisqó recalls when an imposter almost flew overseas to perform as him — and why he didn’t sue

Imitation isn’t always the sincerest form of flattery.

R&B star Sisqó was tempted to pursue legal action against an imposter when the look-alike booked a Bat Mitzvah gig – and almost cashed a nice check – by pretending to be him.

“They was about to get paid,” the “Thong Song” singer, 45, exclusively told Page Six ahead of his elimination on “The Masked Singer” Wednesday evening.

“They were getting on a private jet for the event to go overseas.”

Sisqó shared his doppelgänger got caught red-handed before he could even make it onto the plane because his passport revealed their true identity.

When the “Incomplete” singer was asked why he didn’t sue the fake Sisqó, he shared that the imposter tugged at his heartstring because he had a connection to his hometown.

“It kind of looked like a melted Sisqó, but I could I could sue,” the musician joked before adding, “Once I found out that it was, like, some kid from Baltimore, I just dropped it.”

Sisqó has been impersonated many times before, including in February 2017 when one of his look-alikes fooled people at New York City Fashion Week.

The faux Sisqó sat front row at the Philipp Plein and Vivienne Tam shows at the time, wearing a black velvet, gold-trimmed, caftan-style Versace suit, bleached hair, chunky jewelry and shades.

The man in question, Gavin Barnes, denied trying to pass himself off as Sisqó, though, telling Page Six at the time, “I never said I was Sisqó. People thought I was him, and that wasn’t cool.”

From a case of stolen identity to hidden identity, the real Sisqó purposefully concealed who he really is for “The Masked Singer” because his wife, Elizabeth Pham, and their two kids — Ryu Andrews and Kimiqo Star — are “big fans of the show.”

“It seemed at least once a season or every out of the season, somebody would guess that one of the contestants was me,” the “Go to Get It” singer explained to Page Six.

“So they were like, you know, ‘When are you going on there?'” Sisqó joking that he’d tell his kids, “I didn’t get the call. It’s [been] 20 years. They probably think I’m not alive no more.”

The “Beauty” singer, however, did finally make it onto the “Masked Singer” as Lizard for Season 11.

He made it all the way to the Group C Finals, but told Page Six exclusively that during a smackdown round in an earlier episode, he forgot the lyrics to the song “Movin’ Out.”

“I really didn’t understand what the show was about,” Sisqó admitted.

“I kept getting caught up in the singer part of ‘The Masked Singer,’ and and the show was just so much more. I had to learn the hard way because I did not, like, rehearse any of the words.”

He added, “When I heard the song ‘Movin’ Out’ … it kind of reminded me of Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ …so every time [Jackson] would come on, like, in my head. I just kept saying, ‘Beat it, beat it.’

The singer is now back on tour with his R&B group, Dru Hill, but fans still remember him most for his iconic “Thong Song.”

When asked about how the track has withstood the test of time, Sisqó told us, “We learned from the artists that came before us.

“I remember Babyface told me, specifically … ‘Hey, man, the way you have longevity in this business is you just have to outlast the first bad deal, and then you straight.'”
