Selma Blair details how service dog Scout reminds her to take her MS medication
Selma Blair has a really good boy on her hands.
The actress, 51, spoke with Page Six at Chanel’s Tribeca Festival Women’s Luncheon on Friday where she revealed how her service dog Scout helps her remember to take her Multiple Sclerosis (MS) medication.
“He gives me a little nibble on my nose because I can get a little spastic. He reminds me. I get really distracted so I need him,” Blair shared.
The dog that she’s owned for nearly three years used to assist Blair with her balance and mobility which she says she needed in the earlier days of her diagnosis “when [she] was a little rustier.”
Scout was picked out by her neurologist and was trained to support her needs.
The “Cruel Intentions” alum also said that she’s doing “really well” Health wise since receiving a bone marrow transplant several years ago.
“It took a long time to recover but now I’m finally walking really well. I’m wearing heels without a cane,” she said.
Blair wore a white top with a pair of black bottoms, which she accessorized with a pair of heels. She also carried her dog’s leash around her arm.
“Everyone’s different with their MS and I have always been okay with heels because my foot can bend that way. I have trouble pushing off. Heels are actually easy because you’re just in a fixed foot position. So, it’s always been okay,” she continued.
The starry luncheon — which was held at the The Greenwich Hotel Courtyard — celebrated the Through Her Lens Program, which promotes emerging and independent female voices in filMMAking.
Katie Holmes, Kerry Washington, Christy Turlington, Joey King, Jenny Slate, West Duchovny, Clara McGregor, Rachel Weisz, Emily Mortimer and Carol Kane were all in attendance.
Blair first announced her MS diagnosis in 2018.
“I am disabled,” she wrote at the the time. “I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps.”
She also said she was struggling to put on clothes, walk and even play with her son.
Last November, the actress shared a positive update and admitted she was open to dating again amid her battle with the disease.
“What [being in love] does for your spirit—it’s nothing to take lightly,” she told Glamour Magazine. “It colors everything. I still believe if I’m just true to myself, that person will come into my life one day.”
She continued, “I think I deserve it and think I’m in a great place to show up as the best version of me. It’s the first time I have hope. And I could have never said that in my life before.”
