Schumacher officially parts ways with Ferrari

Former Haas Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher has officially left the Ferrari Driver Academy.

In a mutual decision, the team and the German racer have ended their relationship after four years working together, in which Schumacher became Formula 2 champion in 2020 and was promoted to a race seat in F1 with Ferrari-affiliated Haas.

Having joined in 2019, Schumacher was seen as a logical contender for a race seat with the works Ferrari squad in the future, but underwhelming performances in the '22 season at Haas meant he fell out of favour, and out of F1 altogether when Haas decided Nico Hulkenberg was a better fit for '23.

During his career, Schumacher started 43 races for Haas, scoring points twice with eighth and sixth in Britain and Austria, respectively in the 2022 season.

He was also the designated reserve driver for the Scuderia, in case regular drivers Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz were unable to race.

With no further seats available on the 2023 grid, Schumacher faces at least one season on the F1 sidelines, although Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has expressed interest in him joining the team in a third driver capacity and shadowing Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
