Lottery seeding is the only thing on the line tonight as the Washington Wizards and Toronto Raptors clash in an Eastern Conference basement battle.

The depleted Raptors are low on NBA-level talent these days and bring a nine-game losing streak to D.C. That sets up the Wizards as favorites in the latest NBA odds and they stunned the Sacramento Kings earlier this week, with Kyle Kuzma’s 31-point night snapping Washington’s five-game skid.

With a combined 35-105 record, the Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards are crawling to the finish line — and Toronto has fully embraced player development down the stretch.

Scottie Barnes, Jakob Poeltl, R.J. Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley are all out, stripping away most of the visitor's shotmaking but opening the door for less experienced teammates to step in.

That group includes Gradey Dick, whose bounced back impressively after a shaky start to his rookie year. Though his 3-point shooting has dipped after a red-hot 49% mark in February, he’s getting his shots up with almost six attempts a Game this month from downtown.

Dick poured in 21 points last night against the Thunder, canning four triples as part of his 8-for-15 shooting line. With his minutes extended, he’s flashing other parts of his game too and walking into easy points on drives and cuts.

While Gary Trent Jr. may return at Capital One Arena after a back issue kept him out last night, Dick is still going to be a headliner in this makeshift Toronto offense, and fellow starters Kelly Olynyk and Bruce Brown are more comfortable as facilitators.

The shot volume should be there for Dick again tonight and I’m taking the Over on his points prop. 

My best bet: Gradey Dick Over 13.5 points (-110 at PointsBet)

Raptors vs Wizards same-game parlay

The Wizards produced one of their best wins of the season on Thursday, and Deni Avdija was all over the stat sheet with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Despite Washington’s 12-58 record, the 23-year-old is making the most of his minutes.   

I’m looking to his rebounds prop for my SGP here. He’s averaging almost nine boards per Game in March and he’s been consistent, with nine or more rebounds in five of his last seven contests. There should be plenty of chances for Avdija to clean the glass against a Toronto team missing key scorers.

I’m also taking the Under tonight. The Raptors have fallen short of 105 points in five straight games and now they’re on the second night of a back-to-back set. That spells trouble.

The Under has been a winning ticket in Toronto’s last five Games and I don’t see enough firepower on either roster to justify a line as high as 230.5.

Raptors vs Wizards spread and Over/Under analysis

With Washington essentially locked into the maximum lottery odds, there’s really no downside to picking up some victories over the last few weeks of the season — and this is a great opportunity to add to the win column. Kuzma, Avdija, and Corey Kispert are still logging big minutes for the hosts, leaving the Raptors as clear underdogs.

As strange as this feels to write, I’m more comfortable laying the points with the Wizards in this spot, even with their 5-28 home record. The hosts are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games but Toronto has been even worse in that span with a 2-8 ATS mark.

The Under was a must-have in my SGP and that’s largely because Toronto is counting on bench players and G League graduates. Though Washington has hit the Over in its last four outings, the big totals have often stemmed from opponents’ hot shooting.

The Wizards had allowed 127 points or more in four straight contests — two against the Houston Rockets, plus the Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics — before the cagier battle with Sacramento on Thursday. This Raptors offense belongs in a different category.
