No Connor McDavid, no problem for the Edmonton Oilers. The Oil have won back-to-back games with their superstar sidelined, and they’ll look to make it three in a row with a win at Rogers Place over the visiting New Jersey Devils on Monday, November 4.

My Devils vs. Oilers predictions expect both teams to batten down the hatches and play to a low-scoring result. Read all about it in the NHL picks ahead.

Oilers vs Devils prediction

My Oilers pick
Under 6.5 (-105 at BET99)

My Oilers analysis
The Edmonton Oilers have played to the Under in seven of their past eight games, and the New Jersey Devils have gone Under the number in two straight.

New Jersey has also allowed just five goals across its past three games, and the improved commitment to team defense has been on full display, with the Devils allowing just 1.66 goals and 1.67 expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 during the three-game stretch.

Of course, Edmonton has also been solid, with just 1.78 goals against per 60 allowed during the highlighted eight-game run.

Additionally, likely starter Calvin Pickard has also been sneaky good between the pipes for Edmonton with three consecutive wins while posting a .938 SV%, 1.67 GAA, and 0.69 goals saved above average per 60 minutes.

I also have confidence in the New Jersey goaltending combo of Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen. Markstrom has turned away 73 of 77 shots (.948 SV%) for a 1.35 GAA across his past three starts, while Allen is positioned for a rebound showing after allowing 12 goals through his past two games.

Allen allowed a single goal on 38 shots through his first two starts, and he posted a respectable .900 SV% with 0.15 GSAA/60 over 13 games with the Devils last season, after all.

Finally, both coaches and teams will be looking to avoid finding themselves in a high-event, back-and-forth shootout tonight.

The Oilers are playing for the second consecutive night following a 3-1 road trip, and the Devils wrap up their own three-game roadie after splitting the first two.

Oilers vs Devils same-game parlay (SGP)

Bet99

Under 6.5

Jeff Skinner Over 2.5 shots

Jack Hughes Under 0.5 points

+750 at BET99

Edmonton winger Jeff Skinner paces the club in shots (12.52) and attempts (21.66) per 60 minutes, and he recorded three or more shots in eight of 10 games before falling short of the benchmark in the past two when he turned his seven attempts into just a single shot. I expect him to have better shooting efficiency and go Over the number tonight.

It’s been a solid start for Devils center Jack Hughes. He’s racked up four goals and eight assists across 14 games, but the majority of the damage has come in just four contests (three goals and six assists).

Hughes has missed the scoresheet entirely seven times, and his 2.51 points per 60 minutes are well below the 3.41 mark he posted last year. The offense is going to pick up for the New Jersey star, but taking a flier it doesn’t start tonight against the Oil gives this same-game parlay long odds.
