Game One Recap: Rangers Draw First Blood

The New York Rangers got on the board first in the series by nabbing a 4-3 win in Game one. Mika Zibanejad opened the scoring for the Rangers just 2:46 into the Game before Jaccob Slavin tied the Game at one just 1:02 later. Zibanejad got his second goal of the Game on the power play just after the midway point of the first and Vincent Trocheck pushed the lead to 3-1 with another power play tally in the first. There was no goalscoring in the second period, but Martin Necas would pull the Game back to a one-goal margin just 2:48 into the 3rd. Artemi Panarin would restore the Rangers’ two-goal cushion at the 8:21 mark of the 3rd and while Seth Jarvis made things interesting for the ‘Canes with just under two minutes to go, that was as close as the Hurricanes would get as the Rangers held on for the series-opening win. Igor Shesterkin got the win for the Rangers after stopping 22 of 25 shots faced in the win while Frederik Andersen allowed 4 goals on 23 shots faced in the loss.

NY Rangers vs Carolina Hurricanes Prediction

I’m on the Rangers here. I said it going into Game one, but the Hurricanes are basically just the light version of the Rangers. Both have solid goaltending, both have solid scoring punch and both are solid defensively, but side-by-side, I just feel like the Rangers are the better version of the two. Not only that, the Rangers were rock solid at home this season, and I just don’t feel like stepping in front of them at MSG in the playoffs, especially at a decent price. Give me the Rangers here.
