It has not been the start to the 2023 Formula 1 season that McLaren hoped, with the team scoring just 12 points between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

An unlucky race plagued with problems in Bahrain, then further issues in Saudi Arabia and Australia where Norris revealed that their biggest weakness is straight line speed.

Team Principal Zak Brown has revealed that the team plan to address this problem for the upcoming races, where it will be critical at places like Baku with the long straights.

"We obviously need to fix our straight line deficit and create some more downforce," he told the F1 Nation podcast.

"But that's kind of stating the obvious and Baku I think is a circuit where the upgrades probably won't show as much as they will maybe at another circuit."

"Because it'll help us in some of the corners and it's a bit 'point-and-squirt'."

Brown: No miracles overnight

Brown has already stated that the team missed its targets pre-season, while Technical Director James Key has departed the team following the tough start.

David Sanchez will join the team from Ferrari, as the team looks to improve its fortunes.

But Brown has warned that there will not be any significant fixes in the short term.

He added: "I'm sure there won't be a miracle overnight, but it should be a step forward."
