Mauricio Pochettino leaves Chelsea: who could be the next manager?
Mauricio Pochettino has left his role as manager of Chelsea. The coach and the club have, according to ‘The Telegraph’, agreed to mutually part ways.
This leaves a huge hole at the top of the Chelsea hierarchy, and once again the search begins for Tom Boehly as he looks for a new head coach.
Who could be the new Chelsea manager?
Roberto De Zerbi
Roberto De Zerbi will be one name that stands out at the top of the list. The Italian left Brighton just a few days ago and his experience in the Premier League along with his talent for moulding young players will certainly appeal to the board at the London club.
Thomas Tuchel
Another candidate is Thomas Tuchel. Why not? The German has been at Chelsea before and is still, despite failing with Bayern this season, an elite coach at the top of his Game. Whether or not he could convince the Chelsea board and fans to believe in him is one thing, but that Champions League win against Manchester City a few years ago still stands out as a high point in the club’s History.
Xavi Hernández
The Spanish coach has not yet officially left FC Barcelona, but it looks like the relationship between the coach and the board has broken down for good, with Joan Laporta reportedly not happy with Xavi’s press comments before the game against Almería, in which he expressed his lack of faith when it comes to the club fighting with Real Madrid at the top of LaLiga. The Spaniard is all but on his way out, so why not have a Premier League challenge?
Míchel
The Spaniard has worked wonders with Girona this season in LaLiga, guiding them to a 3rd placed finish and a place in the Champions League. The Catalans have, at times, played the most exciting Football in the division and despite Real Madrid running away with the title, Girona are the side that have enamoured over the course of the campaign.
Kieran McKenna
While he’s an ex-Manchester United graduate, Kieran McKenna could well be a good fit for Chelsea. The Ipswich manager surprised the whole of England by achieving two consecutive promotions with ‘The Tractor Boys’ and we know that Todd Boehly likes a young manager with an exciting style of play, just look at poor old Graham Potter - remember him?
Whatever happens, this season has shown that football is as fluid as ever, with huge names both on and off the bench set to move in what could well be one of the craziest summers we’ve seen in recent times.
