Full-time thoughts:

Manchester United are through to the FA Cup semi-finals and will join Manchester City, Chelsea and Coventry in the final four.

A crazy game at Old Trafford was decided by a late Amad Diallogoal that rolled past Kelleher to send the Old Trafford crowd into delirium and Diallo off for removing his shirt in the madness.

Before that, it was a game that saw periods of dominance from both sides, with Liverpool just about edging it on balance. However, the threat from Manchester United was always there and a pair of unlikely heroes, McTominay and Antony, scored either side of Mac Allister and Salah, who put their side ahead before the break. it looked like Rashford had sealed the win when he was put through, 1 on 1, with seconds to go, but he wasn't in charge of the latest lunar mission and got his angles of trajectory all wrong, rolling the ball wide before staring up at the moon that was peeking round the corner as we settled down for the long haul.

Extra-time saw the shape of the two sides shatter into tiny pieces, as Antony moved to left-back, and Fernandes swapping roles with Harry Maguire, now a false-9, proving that perseverance does really lead to dreams coming true. 

It looked to be over when Elliott's deflected effort whizzed past Onana but the swift counter-attack constructed by Garnacho left Diallo with the job of rolling past Kelleher, which he did, showing Rashford how to put away a 1vs1. 

Manchester United have put an end to Klopp's dream 4 trophy season, and nobody will want to play them in the next round. Except perhaps City, of course.

Well, it's a Liverpool corner and Manchester United counter with Garnacho and Diallo, who race forward. The ball is played left to the Ivorian and his shot takes 300 years to roll past Kelleher to win the game!

Manchester United 2vs1 counter...

Dalot slides in on Gakpo and expertly takes the ball away from the former PSV man.

Everybody is tired, everybody is hurting, everybody is limping, penalties are looming.

SAVE. Onana gets on the end of the cross from Tsimikas, which was destined for Darwin's boot.

WIDE. McTominay slides in and puts Rashford's cross inches wide of Kelleher and the near post!

Back underway.

Liverpool change:

OFF: Díaz

ON: Clark

Darwin loses the ball, passing it straight to McTominay, who sets off. He rolls the ball to Rashford ahead of him and the forward doesn't miss this time, passing around Kelleher, who had no chance.

SAVE. Maguire, who is playing as a false 9 (I'm not joking), smashes a shot straight at Kelleher from inside the box. 

Darwin runs up the other end but he dilly-dallies and sees the ball swiped from his feet.

Kelleher is booked for time wasting.

Eriksen gets a big, shouty message from Garnacho as the former Spurs magician sends a wild long ball way over everyone and out of play.

Bruno Fernandes is playing as a centre-back and Antony is at left-back.

Seriously.

Kelleher is called into action to catch a high ball lofted into the box by Fernandes and, as you may expect, he takes his time in finding a friend to pass to.

I always forget that Steve McClaren is the Manchester United assistant manager. It surprises me every time I see him stood next to ten Hag. I'll catch a glimpse of him in 5 minutes and go through the same exact process.

The ball is worked inside from a throw-in and Bradley, who does superbly well to keep possession, plays square to Elliott. 

He looks up, thinks why not?, draws his leg back and sends an effort towards goal that takes a deflection and spins into the far corner.

WIDE. It's Rashford again, who hits his 1vs1 effort wide in a carbon copy of the previous attempt on 90 minutes.

Liverpool change:

OFF: (a very tired) Gomez

ON: (a very tired-looking) Tsimikas

SIDE NETTING. Wow, Lindelof unleashed an elephant rifle sized shot, drawing back his leg and cracking the ball into the corner of the goal. Just on the wrong side.

Minute 100. Always fun.

I think that if the viewers make it this far into a game, they should take penalties even if the result is settled in extra-time. Just like a loyalty reward.

Garnacho drives at Bradley, who sticks a leg out to stop the shot and send it behind for a corner.

Gomez clatters into the linesman and they both go tumbling down the strange incline that the Old Trafford pitch sits atop of.

Manchester United block the middle channel like a grapefruit in an exhaust pipe and force Liverpool back after the away side had come racing towards Onana and his goal on the counter.

Onana catches the chip over the top from Gomez, who saw Elliott sneaking away down the right.

Lindelof battles well with Darwin and wins the pushing match, with the Uruguayan falling to the floor. The fans next to him don't like to see someone tumble over, and jump up out of their seats to give him words of encouragement.

Extra-time, here we go!

The ball is played over the defence and Rashford takes it down perfectly. He's 1vs1 with Kelleher, just 6 yards out... and he rolls it wide.

WIDE!!!! Rashford misses THE chance to win the game!

CHANCE. Quansah clears Garnacho's cross and the fans are willing the ball into the back of the net as Manchester United throw everyone forward with 90 seconds to go before extra-time...

Manchester United have Liverpool pinned into their own box...

We're into the final minute.

Screams and cries of hope and joy from the stands turn into agony as Antony's cross is deflected across the face of Kelleher's goal.

The Liverpool player goes for a cross from the right that spins wildly and bounces off the bar!

ELLIOTT OFF THE POST!

Back underway.

Liverpool get caught sleeping and Antony shields the ball in the box, facing away from goal. He spins around and pokes a shot - with his right foot (!) - into the corner of the goal.

Luis Díaz hits a shot first time from the edge of the box and it's caught by Onana.

Ten Hag changes things again:

ON: Diallo

Manchester United's defensive transitions have been terrible. Liverpool come forward with more numbers time and time again due to the fact that their front players do little to nothing unless they're moving forward.

The ball is just about cleared by Eriksen as Liverpool attack. It hits the corner flag... and goes out for a throw. That's always fun.

One more change for the home side:

OFF: Mainoo

ON: Eriksen

Mainoo does well to slide in and take the ball from Elliott/Bradley, who couldn't take advantage of Manchester United's defending being as organised as a box of puppies.

Van Dijk does well to clear Garnacho's cross from the left. Liverpool can counter now.

Liverpool changes:

OFF: Robertson, Salah, Szoboszlai

ON: Gakpo, Bradley, Elliott

Fifteen minutes to go. Liverpool have the lead and look comfortable but I wouldn't rule out another goal - from either side - just yet.

Bruno Fernandes' shot is blocked on the edge of the box as the home side find a second wind from somewhere.

Van Dijk gets a big boot on Garnacho's cross and it sails away from goal. Antony drives a low shot towards Kelleher but he drags it wide of the near post.

Erik ten Hag changes things up:

OFF: Højlund, Wan-Bissaka

ON: Antony, Maguire

It's a bit easy now for Liverpool. They've realised Manchester United's press is nowhere to be found and the flicks, tricks and wizardry are all coming to play.

Eek. Onana spoons a clearance as he's forced way out of his box to get something on the ball before Darwin, who was sent in behind by Mac Allister's chipped effort. 

Salah is skipping past challenges with a huge smile on his face like he's just remembered that Easter eggs are finally on sale in the supermarket next to his house.

SAVE. Salah curls a far post effort into Onana's hands. Manchester United are chasing shadows as Liverpool's confidence grows. 

SAVE! Onana saves superbly well as Darwin skips past his marker and thunders a shot towards the near post.

Liverpool fell a little like they're in tune with the game now: their passing is a lot more confident and their movements are sharper than in the first half.

Gomez goes into the book for a high foot on Roberto 'Wan-Bissaka' Carlos.

OVER THE BAR. It's Mac Allister who whips it towards goal and Onana is the coolest cucumber in the house who lets it drop onto the top of the net.

He's back up and Liverpool have a free kick on the edge of the box. Dead central, on the edge of the D.

Szoboszlai, whose name I'm not copying and pasting, is down after a tough challenge for the already booked Bruno Fernandes, who is laughing like a true gentleman.

Szoboszlai passes up the opportunity to shoot, again from distance. He feels like he's already used his one shot per minute ration, so he spreads to Robertson, who flaps his arms in the air as the cross is blocked. Szoboszlai won't do that again.

SAVE. Szoboszlai has a go from distance - why not? - and Onana pushes it behind for a corner.

WIDE. Darwin pokes the ball with his toenail after Salah slides it into the striker. The Game is broken. No tactics, just volcanic explosions and Andy Robertson asking his teaMMAtes to calm down.

WIDE. Fernandes is waving his hands wildly and looking round for a second referee but that's only to hide the fact that his shot/cross from the left was off target and flashed across goal instead of inside it.

Kelleher bunny-rabbit hops off his line to catch Garnacho's lofted cross from the right. 

Salah gets his brain in a fuddle and goes to cross/shoot when he should've shot/crossed, but his feet don't think the same as his brain and in the end, the ball rolls awkwardly towards Onana, who trots out to collect it.

Szoboszlai-shot-from-the-edge-of-the-box alarm. Blocked.

CHANCE. Darwin races inside from the right corner flag and cracks a low shot/cross at goal that almost catches Onana out at the near post.

Roberto Ca- sorry, Wan-Bissaka, races down the left and sees his cross deflected behind.

No changes for either side at the break.

SECOND HALF UNDERWAY!

The away side get us rolling for the second 45.

The two teams are back out on the pitch...

Opta's Michael Reid has a fantastic stat that puts Mo Salah behind Ian Rush for away goals at a single stadium.

That's three goals in three games for the midfielder.

An energetic half of football!

Manchester United had the better of Liverpool for the first 25/30 minutes, but once the away side woke up, Ten Hag's men crumbled.

The game started in a flash, with plenty of attacking threat coming from Manchester United's left side, both Rashford and Wan-Bissaka created mayhem and constantly threatened the goal. 

The first goal came from McTominay, who got on the end of a Kelleher save; moments later it was Kelleher who won the second battle between the two, but the home side were in the driving seat.  

Liverpool, like an Avril Lavigne-loving teenager, woke up slowly but surely, and started to play ball. It was Díaz who began to drive forward and remind his teammates that they too could score. VAR ruled out a goal moments before one was given, with Mac Allister shooting and finding the back of the net from the edge of the box. 

Minutes later the omelette was completely flipped, with Salah tapping in as McTominay had done at the start.

HALF-TIME!

Jürgen Klopp spirits down the touchline into the tunnel.

Bruno Fernandes is booked for whining. Enough said.

We've got a VAR check for a possible foul...

Díaz plays left to Darwin inside the box, who sees his curling shot saved well by Onana. The Manchester United players are complaining about a foul as Salah gets on the rebound to smash into the net!

THEY HAVE TURNED IT AROUND

Dalot steps in superbly well as Robertson tries to thread a needle with oven gloves on, attempting an insanely difficult pass that looked set on meeting Díaz inside the box.

4 added minutes. Old Trafford is silent. Apart from the noisy scousers.

Darwin gets the ball in the box and pops it off to Mac Allister, who is slightly behind him and to the right. The World Cup winner takes a touch and crashes a shot in at the near post. That one's not getting ruled out.

ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER

Garnacho put as much physical effort into defending that Liverpool attack as I did. He looks on like it's someone else's turn to play while Szoboszlai and Robertson link up...

CHANCE. Darwin's touch is as poor as Robertson's cross is good - and the ball in was a beauty. The striker watches on as foot and mind don't link up which means the ball rolls away and out of play.

The away side have shown signs of life and are pushing Manchester United further and further back...

Well, that was a fun few minutes!

We have a VAR check and Salah was indeed offside as the ball came to him.

OFFSIDE!!!

Salah is offside in the buildup.

SAVE. Onana this time as the game explodes into life. Díaz skips down the left, cuts inside and goes for the near post. The former Inter man does well to get two strong hands on the ball.

HUGE SAVE. Kelleher, again.

Mainoo does a madness down the left, skipping past challenges before McTominay sees his driven shot somehow stopped from close range after the cross comes in.

SAVE. Again, down the left. Rashford lays off to Bruno Fernandes on the edge of the box and the Portuguese sends a shot towards goal that's well saved.

Manchester United are popping the ball around the back and occasionally touching it into midfield in an attempt to draw out Liverpool's defensive unit.

Dallot gets a foot on the ball as Díaz charges down the left and Liverpool win a corner.

Varane meets Bruno Fernandes' cross from deep but he's arching his back and the header spins upwards and drops kindly forKelleher.

Mac Allister is booked for a shirt pull as the home side counter.

CHANCE. Robertson's cross is cleared out to Szoboszlai, who sees his low shot saved by Onana.

Højlund slips as he gets in front of goal and spoons the ball way over the bar. Forgetting the hilarity of the fall for a second, that was another dangerous attack down the left.

Szoboszlai gets the ball near halfway as the corner is cleared and I genuinely forgot he was on the pitch. That kind of game so far.

A decent move breaks out from Liverpool's possession and Darwin wins a corner.

There is very little movement from Liverpool's midfield and frontthree as their defenders rolls it between each other. Manchester United are sitting off, happy to watch them go nowhere.

CHANCE. Bruno Fernandes goes for glory from a tight angle, whipping his free-kick on the left over the goal and onto the roof of the net.

Van Dijk screams and shouts and says naughty words to his friends as he's forced to step out to right back and half Wan-Bissaka, who has forgotten how to be Wan-Bissaka and is instead copying Roberto Carlos.

It's just not clicking for Klopp's side who are not finding those passing triangles and are leaving space in the middle third for their opponents to attack.

Somehow we're already 20 minutes into the game as Wan-Bissaka goes to ground to stop Luis Díaz from sending Mo Salah away down the right. A huge cheer from the crowd.

Gomez sees his name in lights and goes for goal when perhaps there were better options for the right-back on the edge of the box. His effort swirls over the bar.

Ooooos and aaaaas from the happy crowd as Bruno Fernandes sends in an enticing deep free-kick that bounces in the box but isn't met by any daring player in a red shirt.

Kelleher, Van Dijk, Robertson, Van Dijk, Kelleher, Van Dijk, Robertson...

Liverpool can't find the midfielders as Manchester United have their exit lanes covered. A frustrating start for Klopp's side so far.

CHANCE. Mainoo spins and twirls round the defenders on Manchester United's left side before seeing his cross deflected into Kelleher's grateful grasp.

CHANCE. Manchester United come again, this time down the right. Højlund sees his shot well blocked by Robertson. Liverpool are second best at the moment, and it's the home side's intensity that's seeing them win the battles.

The attack comes down the left and Garnacho sends a low shot towards the far post, which is saved and spins up into the air. 

It's McTominay who moves quickest to send the dropping ball into the net from close range.

WHAT A CHANCE. A long ball from right to left is met by a Salah karate kick that sends it back where it came from, across the face of goal and just wide!

And of course, as I type that, Liverpool work the ball out well and go on the attack, with the cross from Salah dangerous but well cleared.

Liverpool haven't seen the ball so far and we're over 5 minutes in...

SAVE! Rashford picks the ball up on the edge of the box, cuts inside on his right foot and sends a driven effort towards the far post, which is well saved by the fully extended arm of the Liverpool goalkeeper.

Manchester United are up for this game, it seems. They're pressing Liverpool ultra-high up the pitch and have them blocked in so far.

CHANCE. Wan-Bissaka leads the charge as the home side unlock Liverpool on the left wing, but the full-back falls as he takes the sly pass inside from Rashford, which means his shot is poor and dribbles towards Kelleher.

We're 66 seconds in a we've seen around 66 long balls hoofed into the air already. 

AND WE'RE OFF!

Great question. We don't have any room in the calendar for a replay so the game will be decided today, if needed at 90 minutes, with extra-time and penalties.

John Brooks is the lucky man with the whistle at Old Trafford today.

The 34-year-old from Melton Mowbray has been a Premier League referee since December 2021 and has plenty of experience in the domestic game, which is very much needed for such a tense and fiery match!

Jürgen Klopp leaving Liverpool: which club will he go to next?

In a move that has shocked the world of football, the German manager has announced his decision to step away from Liverpool at the end of the season. 

“After guiding the Reds to another Wembley final on Wednesday night, the 56-year-old will continue to oversee the team’s remaining fixtures of 2023-24 before bringing the curtain down on a glorious eight-and-a-half-year managerial reign at Anfield, which has seen the club win six major trophies under his guidance to date”, Liverpool said in a statement.

The German arrived in England on October 8, 2015 and since then they have undergone a revolution, returning to the top of English, European and world football, winning the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup, as well as the FA Community Shield.

Klopp told the club “I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it. I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take.”

Rasmus Højlund's signing from Manchester United was met with raised eyebrows as the club forked out big money for the young forward. 

However, in the short time he's been at the club, he's shown promise and a genuine goalscoring instinct that has fans head over heels for him.

He'll keep the Liverpool defenders busy with runs in behind as well as a good physical presence, but it will be interesting to see how match fit he is after returning to training from injury this week.

The Irishman has performed superbly well since AlissonBecker's injury, and he'll keep his place until mid-April at least, when the Brazilian is set to return.

It is another huge game for Kelleher today, but what he's shown recently is that less experience does not equal lesser performances, so make sure to keep an eye out for him once the whistle goes.

Manchester United's FA Cup record

Manchester United have won the FA Cup a whopping 12 times, with their latest success coming back in 2016. 

On that day, they beat Crystal Palace 1-2 at Wembley, with late goals from Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard coming quickly after Jason Puncheon put the London side into the lead.

The only player remaining from that Manchester United side is Marcus Rashford, who is expected to start today.

Liverpool hunting for goodbye trophies

Liverpool are still in the race to collect four trophies this season, with their dream of giving the perfect send-off for Jürgen Klopp a distinct possibility.

They claimed the Carabao Cup this season with a victory over Chelsea in extra-time, when Virgil van Dijk headed in as the clock hurtled towards a penalty shootout. 

Meanwhile, in the Premier League, the side sit second, level on points with Arsenal at the top. They are one point ahead of City, who they drew withlast weekend, and have a tough run in with the like of West Ham, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United all still to play.

As for Europe, the UEFA Europa League draw served them up a fantastically enticing tie against Atalanta. The Serie A side sit 6th in their league table and beat Sporting CP in the previous round. 

Liverpool's FA Cup record

Liverpool have won the FA Cup 8 times, with their last victory coming in 2022. On that occasion, the game was against Chelsea and was, expectedly, a 0-0 draw. 

The game went through extra-time with Liverpool's attacking trio of Díaz, Sané and Salah unable to break Chelsea's deadlock.

Penalties came and both sides missed one of the five with sudden death being won by Tsimikas, who slotted his away after Mount had missed.

Is Ten Hag going to get sacked by Manchester United?

That's what Michael Owen would do. 

The former Manchester United striker has had his say on Erik ten Hag, shouting "Oh, no!" at me when I asked him whether he would stick with the Dutchman. 

“If you say to me”, he explains, “how do Aston Villa play? or how do Liverpool play?, you can say they’re good at this or they’re weak at that, you can have an opinion. I can see what they’re trying to do and that goes for virtually every club in the Premier League.

“If you never watched football before and asked me what are Manchester United?, I’d say to you, I really don’t know. I’m not sure whether they’re a possession team, I’m not sure whether they’re counter-attacking, I’m not sure whether they’re high-pressing, I just don’t know what they’re trying to do.

"At least if they have an identity and get beat 6-0 by Manchester City, do you know what? If I was a Manchester United fan? I’d prefer that, just because I’d have an idea and know this is how we’re going to play.

"You want to be a team that plays out from the back. But they’ve got Lindelof at left-back… I just don’t get what the vision is. That’s what Manchester United are.”

The Manchester United boss spoke recently about his Portuguese midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, who he said was targeted by Nottingham Forest, the team that they beat in the 5th Round of the FA Cup.

"You saw that Forest were targeting him", ten Hag said, "I won't tell you what he has but it was a serious injury."

"I see serious media criticise him and also social media, and it's pathetic. It's not on."

Liverpool injury news

While the worst of the injury crisis is over, a number of players will miss this afternoon’s showdown with Manchester United.  

Alisson (hamstring), Ibrahima Konaté (hamstring), Curtis Jones (ankle), Trent Alexander-Arnold (knee ligament) and Diogo Jota (collateral ligament, knee) are all ruled out for Old Trafford. 

Ryan Gravenberch returned to full training last week after spending just under three weeks out nursing an ankle injury. He could be given minutes but will likely start on the bench.

Then there are the long-term casualties: JoelMatip and Thiago remain out for the foreseeable future - both players’ contracts are up in June, so we’ll see if they appear before the season is out.

Others are nearing their return. Klopp hopes to have Curtis Jones, Trent and Jota back in the fold after the international break with Stefan Bajcetic and Ben Doak also expected to return next month.

Here's how the stadium looks ahead of kick-off

Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium is perhaps one of the most recognisable grounds in the world. 

The ground opened in 1910 and has been renovated plenty of times since then. It holds 74,310, making it the largest club football stadium and second-largest football stadium overall after Wembley Stadium in the United Kingdom, as well as the twelfth-largest in Europe.

Fans, despite the stadium's size, have been clamouring for a fresh lick of paint and a bit of a facelift to the ground, as it is true that the inner workings of the ground, everywhere except the pitch, could do with an update.

There have been reports of everything from leaky roofs to squeaky seats and more, so it will be interesting to see what new owner Jim Ratcliffe proposes down the line for the 'new' Old Trafford.

Manchester United team news:

Maguire, Højlund and Wan-Bissaka all trained on Friday, with ten Hag saying in his pre-game press conference “I think [they’re going to be available]. We have, tomorrow, one session. We have to see how they recover from this tomorrow. But it looks good.”

Lisandro Martinez is ruled out, as well as back-up goalkeeper AltayBayindir.

Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial are the side’s long-term absentees but Mason Mount is making progress, and is close to reappearing.

Omari Forson is out injured, while JonnyEvans has been, according to the club, nursing a minor issue.

“Tom Heaton is back as well,” said Ten Hag, before giving more good news: “Also, what was very good was Mason Mount trained all week with us, the first part of the week also partly. But then, also he had some full sessions with us, so it’s looking good.”
