Premier League: Manchester United - Liverpool live updates
Casemiro thunders into Szoboszlai!
Szoboszlai lines one up from range but is brilliantly stopped in his tracks by the sliding Casemiro.
Fernandes goes down in the box but was offside. His first little tantrum of the game. I suspect it won't be the last...
Much better there from United, though! Rashford bounces on a loose ball in midfield and plays Hojlund through, although the striker can't get away from the Liverpool defence, who crowd him out.
United attempt to play out from the back but get as far as Dalot, who is then forced to chip the ball up towards Hojlund, who can't get a hold of it.
The complexion of this game has totally changed. United, after a lightning start, can't get out.
A vital interception from Dalot stops Núñez from exploiting a huge space in the middle of the United defence!
Liverpool have stemmed the flow of United attacks and have had much more control in the last couple of minutes.
Szoboszlai fires over!
The corner eventually comes to Salah, whose layoff to Szoboszlai is swept over the bar by the Hungarian.
As soon as I say that, Liverpool threaten! Núñez gets in behind on the right, chips the ball up for Salah, whose first-time volley is blocked out for a corner by Mainoo.
Ten Hag will definitely be the happier manager so far. Early days, however.
That earlier corner came to nothing, but Onana then almost picked out Hojlund with a superb long ball over the top of the defence. Van Dijk to the rescue again.
Liverpool's Bradley booked
Conor Bradley has already been booked for a late challenge on Rashford in midfield.
It's been a really good start for United. Garnacho gets past Robertson and crosses, with Van Dijk forced to clear for a corner.
Núñez threatens to break away for Liverpool, but slips on his backside as he tries to take on Maguire, who was the last defender. Whoops.
Dalot and Garnacho, by the way, are playing on the right, with Wan-Bissaka and Rashford on the left.
A breathless beginning. Keep it going, please!
Onana saves from Szoboszlai!
Wow! An electric opening! Szoboszlai gets on the end of a brilliant Salah pass and shoots across Onana, who makes a fine stop!
That would've set this game on fire from the word go!
Garnacho goal ruled out!
What a start!
Hojlund sets Garnacho clean through, he rounds Kelleher to score but is flagged offside. Correct decision!
Underway at Old Trafford!
Bruno Fernandes get us going!
Liverpool will go top of the Premier League with a win
Remember, this is an especially huge Game for Liverpool, who will leapfrog Arsenal at the top with a win. United, of course, will be desperate (with a capital D) to stop them.

The teams are out, almost ready to go!
Liverpool team to play Manchester United
Starts once again for Kelleher, Bradley and Quansah, with Alisson and Alexander-Arnold still out, and Konaté on the bench.
Kelleher; Bradley, Quansah, Van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Endo, Mac Allister; Salah, Núñez, Díaz.
Manchester United team to play Liverpool
Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Kambwala, Maguire, Dalot; Casemiro, Mainoo; Rashford, Fernandes, Garnacho, Hojlund.
Casemiro has been passed fit despite going off against Chelsea in midweek. No Varane or Evans, though.
With just a few minutes to go until we get underway, let's have another look at how the two teams will line up.
Premier League giants face off in the Manchester rain
Anyone who's ever been to Manchester will absolute not be surprise to learn the heavens have opened. Nothing better than playing soccer on fast, slick surface, if you ask me.
Manchester United - Liverpool: countdown to kick-off!
Less than 10 minutes to go until lift-off at Old Trafford. Hands up if you're feeling nervous!
Erik Ten Hag's explains Willy Kambwala selection
The most interesting selection for United today is youngster Willy Kambwala playing in central defence alongside Harry Maguire. Varane, Evans, Lindelof and Martínez are all injured.
Before the game, Erik Ten Hag has explained why he's put his trust in the Frenchman.
Who has won more league titles, Manchester United or Liverpool?
United have had a decade of disaster but are still the most successful team in England when it comes to league titles. Sir Alex Ferguson's last few years at the club (up until 2013) saw The Red Devils overtake Liverpool at the top of that particular tree.
United have won 20 English top-flight titles (13 in the Premier League era), compared to Liverpool's 19 (one Premier League).
Despite Jürgen Klopp's success at Anfield and the plaudits he's received, he has just one league title to his name, which he'll be desperate to add to before leaving in the summer.

Mohamed Salah's incredible record against Manchester United
One man who should be looking forward to today's game in Liverpool's Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has scored 13 goals and set up another four in 14 appearances against Manchester United.
No player in history has scored more times in the fixture.
Liverpool's big-game struggles
Don't get me wrong, it's been a brilliant season for Liverpool. They've won the Carabao Cup, are in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and will go top of the Premier League with a win today.
But their only weakness has been against the 'big' teams this season. Their only domestic defeats have come away to Arsenal, Spurs and United (in the cup), while they have drawn against The Gunners, The Red Devils, and Manchester City twice.
Liverpool's South American contingent on form
If Home Alone had been set in Argentina.
Seven goals in nine Games for Núñez, five in eight from midfield for Mac Allister.
Boos for Liverpool upon Old Trafford arrival
Ah, come on, did you expect anything else? Sport, eh? Is it the only thing on the planet that can make full-grown adults boo?
Harry Amass makes first appearance in Manchester United first-team squad
A big day for Harry Amass, who only just turned 17 recently and is on the bench for United for the first time. The English left-back wears the number 70 jersey, which shows you just how many players they have unavailable at the moment...
United beat Liverpool in FA Cup quarter-final classic
In among those United and Liverpool results, you'll have noticed a 4-3 win (after extra time) for The Red Devils in the FA Cup quarter-finals, which took place at Old Trafford just 21 days ago. Klopp's side were 2-1 ahead at half-time and dominated the early part of the second half, but were made to pay for not finishing the game off.
Sub Amad Diallo scored a dramatic winner with one of the last kicks of the ball in what has already been billed as an FA Cup classic. Will that game have any bearing on today's?
Liverpool: last five games
- Liverpool 3-1 Sheffield Utd (Premier League)
- Liverpool 2-1 Brighton (Premier League)
- Man Utd 4-3 Liverpool (FA Cup)
- Liverpool 6-1 Sparta Praha (Europa League)
- Liverpool 1-1 Man City (Premier League)
Manchester United somehow lose Chelsea thriller
Just three days ago, Manchester United somehow managed to lose to Chelsea when it seemed as if they were home and dry.
Two goals inside the first 20 minutes from Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer initially put The Blues in control but United had turned things around by the midway point of the second half thanks to an Alejandro Garnacho double either side of a Bruno Fernandes header.
Erik Ten Hag’s team held their lead until the ninth minute of injury time and were hit by two devastating sucker punches. Palmer converted his second penalty of the game to draw Chelsea level and still had to time to fire in a deflected winner on 100 minutes and 39 seconds, the latest winning goal on record in the Premier League.
Manchester United: last five Games
- Chelsea 4-3 Man Utd (Premier League)
- Brentford 1-1 Man Utd (Premier League)
- Man Utd 4-3 Liverpool (FA Cup)
- Man Utd 2-0 Everton (Premier League)
- Man City 3-1 Man Utd (Premier League)
Liverpool team to play Manchester United
Injuries mean Kelleher again deputises in goal, with Bradley and Quansah starting in defence.
Kelleher; Bradley, Quansah, Van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Endo, Mac Allister; Salah, Núñez, Díaz.
Manchester United team to play Liverpool: Casemiro in, Varane out
Casmeiro has been passed fit to play, but no Varane for United. That means young Frenchman Willy Kambwala starts in central defence.
Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Kambwala, Dalot; Casemiro, Mainoo; Rashford, Fernandes, Garnacho, Hojlund.
Manchester United’s Premier League drop-off
United lost only one of nine matches in January and February but have since gone off the boil somewhat. They’ve won just one of their last five Premier League matches, including a dramatic 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on Thursday.
As a result, they're 12 points behind fourth-place Aston Villa (with two games) in hand, and nine behind fifth-placed Spurs.
The calm before the storm at Old Trafford
The two most successful teams in English soccer History are about to come face to face once again. We've had some iconic matches over the years (including a very recent one). Are we in for another treat?
Liverpool squad news: Trent and Alisson still out
Key men Trent Alexander-Arnold and goalkeeper Alisson Becker are still among the absentees for the visitors.
Out - Joel Matip, Thiago Alcântara, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota
Manchester United squad news: Varane and Casemiro major doubts
There’s a central defensive crisis going on at Old Trafford, with Martínez and Lindelof definitely out and Varane and Evans major doubts.
Out - Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof
Doubts - Raphaël Varane, Jonny Evans, Casemiro
Liverpool locked in Premier League title race with Manchester City and Arsenal
Remember the last time there were three teams in a Premier League title race this late in the season? No, me neither.
With Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal regularly playing at different times, there have been plenty of “over to you” moments in the last few weeks. The Reds and The Gunners have traded places from one day to the next, with City lurking in the background, waiting to pounce.
As it stands, Klopp’s boys are level with City and a point behind Arsenal after they beat Brighton yesterday. A win at Old Trafford, however, will move them back to the top of the table with seven matches to go for all three teams.

PREMIER LEAGUE
Where do Manchester United need to finish in the Premier League to qualify for the Champions League?
How many Premier League teams will qualify for the 2024/25 Champions League?
The million dollar question. Here’s the lowdown on why Manchester United (and a number of others) don’t yet know what they need to do to clinch a Champions League place next season.
Can Manchester United still qualify for the Champions League?
It seems unlikely. We still don’t know if four or five English teams will qualify for next season’s new and improved (ahem) Champions League, but I don’t think’s going to matter for The Red Devils.
It’s hard to make a case for them finishing in the top four or five. They’ve lost (12) almost as many games as they’ve won (15) and have conceded more goals (44) than they’ve scored (43) in 30 matches. Hardly the sign of a team that’s going to win their last eight league fixtures, which they might need to do.

What time does Manchester United against Liverpool kick off?
The game in Manchester gets underway at 3:30 p.m. local time, which is 10:30 a.m. ET and 7:30 a.m. PT. What better way to start a Sunday with a Premier League classic (not that I’m tempting fate or anything)?
