Klay Thompson is set to become a free agent this summer. The Golden State Warriors have refused to give him a max contract to lock him up long-term, and thus, he could theoretically depart once the season concludes.

Golden State made it a priority to lock up Stephen Curry and Draymond Green long-term, but Thompson has been a different story.

The lack of stability has understandably been tough on Thompson.

This week, Brett Siegal of ClutchPoints offered some clarity on what Thompson’s future with the Warriors may look like.

“Remaining with the Warriors is still at the forefront of Thompson’s mind, sources said, even though this may be the last chance in his career to pursue a large contract on the open market, given his name and History. The main priority for the Warriors this offseason is to figure out how to capitalize on the final years of Curry’s career and comPete for more championships,” he wrote.

“Thompson has been the organization’s second-best player for years, which is why they also have a lot of interest in retaining him this offseason.”

With the desire to remain together being mutual, all signs currently point to a deal being reached.

“Warriors owner Joe Lacob and the front office would like to achieve this goal by having Klay return on a team-friendly contract, one that would still give the organization flexibility in terms of their financial situation,” he continued.

“It is hard to see a scenario in which the Warriors would eclipse a four-year, $100 million contract for Thompson, the same deal they recently gave to Green. Whatever the case may be, expect Golden State to keep Thompson around in the offseason on a new deal that aligns him with the contracts of Curry and Green.”

Thompson’s career has been synonymous with the Warriors’ dynasty.

Will Thompson and Golden State be able to reach an agreement before the start of next season? Time will tell.
