Jesse Rodriguez vs Sunny Edwards purse money: How much will they make, and how will they split it?
The run-up to one of the most exciting fights in the second half of this year has begun. Jesse Rodriguez and Sunny Edwards will battle it out in the ring, with both men vying to become the unified champion in the 112-pound category.
Jesse “Bam Bam” Rodriguez
Rodriguez, also known as “Bam Bam,” currently holds the WBO belt, while Edwards is the IBF titleholder. Both fighters will do their best to defend their undefeated records until the end.
Rodriguez’s path to fame began with his fight against Carlos Cuadras, winning a unanimous decision and becoming the WBC super flyweight champion. He proved his success was not a fluke by winning against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai via TKO and Israel Gonzalez by points.
Rodriguez then moved down in weight from super flyweight to flyweight to comPete against Cristian Gonzalez for the vacant WBO belt, which he won in a 12-round unanimous decision.
Sunny Edwards
On the other hand, Edwards has been noticed as a fighter with enormous potential in his recent bouts since winning his first title in 2017 at the age of 21. In 2021, he won the IBF flyweight title after defeating Moruti Mthalane on points. He returned to the ring a few months later to face and defeat Jayson Mama, retaining the title in his first defense.
This victory gave him the confidence to continue winning as a champion against dangerous opponents, and he kept his undefeated record against Muhammad Waseem, Felix Alvarado, and Andres Campos.
Rodriguez vs Edwards: Money purse
The purses for fights in the lower weight categories are not very profitable, but due to the hype for this fight, both contenders are expected to earn the most substantial payday of their careers. The exact amount has not been disclosed, but an approximate estimate can be made by considering their previous fights and payments.
In their latest bouts, Rodriguez and Edwards received a significant increase in their earnings, with Rodriguez receiving for his championship belt title fight north of $400,000. It is estimated that Edwards also earned a similar amount from his last fight.
Considering the importance of this title unification and the attention it has generated, both boxers are expected to earn even more remarkable figures. Although there is no official information on the exact numbers yet, it is speculated that they will receive as much as $600,000 each.
