Have Arsenal or Chelsea won more Premier League titles?
Arsenal and Chelsea face off in the Premier League on Tuesday night in a match that is considerably bigger for The Gunners than it is for their London counterparts.
Manchester City with the upper hand in EPL title race
Mikel Arteta’s team are top of the table ahead of Liverpool on goal difference but a damaging defeat to Aston Villa has given serial winners Manchester City the initiative. City will go two points clear at the summit if they win their Game in hand, which means Arsenal will be desperate to pick up three points against The Blues at the Emirates.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have, of course, had another season to forget, although they have been in decent form of late, with Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final loss to City ending an eight-match unbeaten run.
The Blues are currently in ninth place in the table but could yet qualify for Europe, albeit the Conference League. Only three points currently separate them from sixth-placed Newcastle United, who are in the Conference League qualification spot at present.
How many times have Arsenal won the Premier League?
In recent seasons, Chelsea and particularly Arsenal have struggled to repeat their previous successes in the English top flight.
Only Manchester United (20) and Liverpool (19) have been crowned English champions more often than The Gunners, who have 13 titles to their name. They had some early glory in the Premier League era, which began in 1992, but have been stuck on three victories in the rebranded competition since 2003/04, when they famously won the league undefeated.
How many times have Chelsea won the Premier League?
Chelsea, meanwhile, were a club transformed by previous owner Roman Abramovich, who enjoyed almost immediate success after taking charge.
The Blues had only won one pre-Premier League title, but have since added another five to their list of honours, three of which were masterminded by José Mourinho.
United (13) and City (seven) are the only two teams have won more Premier League titles than Chelsea (five) but their last triumph came in 2016/17 and they appear to no closer to clawing their way back into contention, despite spending over $1 billion on new players in the last two seasons.
