Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has insisted that Manchester United did well to ensure the scoreline did not get out of hand during their Champions League encounter on Wednesday.

The Red Devils were beaten 4-3 at the Allianz Arena to kick off their group stage campaign.

United started well in Germany but fell behind when Andre Onana spilled a speculative strike from Leroy Sane into his own net, before Serge Gnabry doubled the lead soon after.

Just after half-time, Rasmus Hojlund pulled one back with his first goal in United colours, only for Bayern to go 3-1 up via a Kane penalty when a handball was harshly called against Christian Eriksen.

Bayern then missed a flurry of great chances as they sought to put the game out of sight, but Casemiro scored a quite incredible goal in the 88th minute to bring United to within touching distance of their hosts again.

Substitute Mathys Tel added Bayern's fourth in stoppage time and Casemiro grabbed the game's final goal with essentially the final touch of the game to conclude a manic night in Munich.

Speaking to TNT Sports post-match, Kane gave United credit for not letting the Game slip away from them.

"Obviously towards the end of the Game it was a bit frantic but overall I think we controlled a lot of the possession," he said.

"We probably should have been four or five-one up after we got the third but credit to Man Utd, they tried to get back into the Game. But overall it's three points and a really good start to the campaign.

Kane added: "They [United] are going through a difficult spell with injuries."

Discussing his start to life at Bayern Munich, Kane continued: "It's been nice. It's always great to score. Always room for improvement. It's a great night tonight. We're building. We can enjoy this.

"It's exciting to play with them. We're still getting to know each other. I'm excited for what's to come. Whenever there's a big price tag there's a big expectation and you want to repay the club who have put faith in you."
