Jurgen Klopp has hit out at the atmosphere at Anfield, telling quiet fans to "give their tickets to somebody else" if they're not prepared to cheer on the team during the weekend clash with Arsenal.

The Reds booked their place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup with an emphatic 5-1 win over West Ham United at Anfield on Wednesday evening, with goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and a brace from Curtis Jones securing the victory.

The emphatic win was needed after a dire 0-0 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League at weekend which lulled Anfield into a deathly, uncharacteristic, silence - prompting Red Devils goalkeeper Andre Onana to admit he "felt nothing" from the stands.

The silence continued into Wednesday's game, particularly in the first half when Liverpool were surprisingly rarely cheered on by the Anfield faithful. Speaking to the press after the game, Klopp lamented the lack of atmosphere at the famous stadium.

"I thought in the first half when the boys played really exceptionally, I was not overly happy with the atmosphere behind me," he confessed.

"I asked people what do they want? We changed a lot of things and we dominated West Ham like crazy and missed chances. If I was in the stands I would be on my toes, 1,000%. I don’t know, if the Man Utd game was that bad that we have to say sorry we didn’t smash them?"

The manager also sent a rallying cry to fans ahead of this weekend's top of the table clash with Arsenal, telling fans to give away their tickets if they're not going to get behind the team.

"We need Anfield on Saturday," Klopp said. "Arsenal didn’t play this week. They’ve prepared for this Game and anyone who knows anything about them knows they will be prepared.

"So we need Anfield on their toes from the first second, without me having an argument with the opposition coach.

"If it is too much football in December, if you are not in the right shape, give your ticket to somebody else. It was just not the excitement I felt. There were so many good performances but we were only 1-0 up."
