Facebook Dating now requires age verification
Meta, with the help of Yoti, is adding an age verification feature to Facebook Dating.
The company introduced Facebook Dating three years ago in the US. However, the app would register any user as long as they were adding up to the age of 18.
With the launch of the new feature, if the system suspects that a minor is using Facebook Dating, it will ask for age verification. Users can provide proof by submitting a photo ID card or a video selfie.
This information will then be processed by Yoti's algorithm which will estimate the age of the user through facial features. Once the age is verified, Yoti will delete the data at its end and the user can continue with the process.
Although there have been concerns regarding the efficiency of the software involved in estimating age, the Technology has been of relative help in avoiding minors from using such apps.
Previously, Meta started testing the feature of age verification on Instagram using different AI techniques to ensure that it delivers age-appropriate content.
