Ex-Warriors Coach Mark Jackson Takes Odd Shot At Stephen Curry

Mark Jackson served as Stephen Curry’s head coach on the Golden State Warriors before he became the player he has ultimately become.

While Jackson has since become blackballed from coaching in the NBA, many still credit him with laying the foundation for Curry’s all-time great, future Hall-of-Famer career.

That said, during a recent interview, Jackson took something of an odd shot at Curry.

When asked to rattle off the best point guards of all time, Jackson curiously omitted Curry from the list.

“Off the top of my head, don’t hold me to it; Magic Johnson is number one; lock that in,” he said.

“Isiah Thomas is number two. Number three guy who is the all-time leader in assists and steals -John Stockton. Fourth is Jason Kidd. Five and six, whatever way you want to put them, Steve Nash and Chris Paul.”

Jackson then tried to lay out his criteria.

“I’m talking about six guys that run a team like true maestros,” he continued.

“Gary Payton is one of the greatest point guards that ever played the Game, but he wasn’t running a team to the level of those guys. He was a lockdown defender, tough, comPetitive, great scorer, but those guys, as far as maestro, when I think of maestros in the History of the Game, I think of those five or six guys.”

Obviously everyone can understand that Jackson was trying to list off more “pure” point guards in the traditional sense. That said, the reality of the situation is that Curry is a point guard. All positions evolve – and he spearheaded the evolution of his.

Jackson’s refusal to acknowledge that is odd, to say the least.
