Erik ten Hag has revealed what he told referee Graham Scott that saw him booked during Manchester United's 1-0 win over Luton on Saturday, resulting in a touchline ban for their next Premier League game.

The Dutchman has received three yellow cards so far this season and will now be forced to watch from the stands when the Red Devils visit Everton after the November international break.

During Saturday's tight match, in which Victor Lindelof's strike proved enough for victory, Ten Hag complained to referee Scott over the awarding of a throw-in and was cautioned. In his post-match comments, he explained he couldn't contain his disbelief because it was a clear mistake from the officials.

"It was about a moment so clear," he explained. "A throw-in but it was the second time. I was on top of it and it was so clear and obvious it was our ball - that was my remark and therefore I got booked."

Asked if he would receive a self-imposed fine, Ten Hag added: "When the players get a red card, they'll probably be fined but for a booking, a yellow, they don't get fined.

"To a certain point, of course you have to accept decisions and I should do as well."

Ten Hag will watch on from the Goodison Park stands when United visit Everton later this month. The Toffees have revived their fortunes with three wins from their last five Premier League Games, including a 3-2 triumph at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Asked how his side would prepare for that game without him overseeing proceedings on the touchline, he said: "We have a very competent coaching staff and they will take over.

"Of course to a certain point I can be involved but I can say my coaching staff is very comPetent."
