BC Lions vs. Toronto Argonauts
June 9, 2024 7:00 pm EDT

The CFL presents a matchup between the BC Lions and the Toronto Argonauts. Let’s take a look at this game from a Draftkings perspective.

Prior to discussing my Draftkings picks for the BC Lions vs. Toronto Argonauts Game, let’s review an important note regarding the rules and scoring for the single Game showdown contests.

For those readers who are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single Game showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.

If you need to review the specific rules for the single game showdown contests feel free to check out the Draftkings website.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate. Remember, once lineups lock you cannot swap players.

Here are my Draftkings picks for this week’s BC Lions vs. Toronto Argonauts matchup.

Draftkings CFL Player Selections

Vernon Adams Jr., QB $12,700

Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. was certainly the driving force behind the BC Lions success on the offensive side of the Football in 2023. Having stated that, how did Adams Jr. perform from a statistical perspective? Let’s review Vernon Adam Jr.’s relevant key player Game data from the 2023 CFL regular season to answer that question.

In the 14 games that quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. played for the BC Lions in the 2023 CFL regular season, Adams Jr. averaged an impressive 413.2 passing yards, 2.6 passing touchdowns, and 29.6 rushing yards a game.

Looking closer at the data just presented, in the 14 Games that Vernon Adams Jr. played for the BC Lions last season, Adams Jr. averaged 22.2 Draftkings points a Game.

I also like Vernon Adams Jr.’s matchup in this game. Why? Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. draws a Toronto Argonauts defense that had issues defending the quarterback back position in the 2023 regular season. Let me be more specific. Upon the completion of 18 games in the 2023 CFL regular season, the Toronto Argonauts ranked an abysmal eighth in total passing yards allowed (273.5) a game to the quarterback back position. Let us not forget that the CFL has nine teams in the entire league. Clearly, being ranked eighth in any defensive category is not good.

As I noted in the rules section above, selecting the correct players for your flex positions for a DFS showdown lineup is absolutely vital if you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) Draftkings contest. Keep that in mind as you determine which players to select as your flex plays for this one Game Draftkings contest. For me, the obvious first choice at the flex position for this CFL Draftkings contest is BC Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.

Alexander Hollins, WR $8,700

It’s fair to say that BC Lions wide receiver Alex Hollins was targeted by Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. early and often during the 2023 CFL campaign. In 16 games played for the BC Lions in the 2023 CFL regular season, Lions wide receiver Alexander Hollins accumulated a robust 83 receptions, 1,243 receiving yards, and 9 receiving touchdowns.

I noted earlier in this article that the Toronto Argonauts struggled defending the pass last season. Having stated that, I think locking up Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. and BC wide receiver Alexander Hollins as flex plays is the smart way to attack this slate.

Additional flex plays I like to perform well this week (Draftkings price noted): Cameron Dukes, QB $9,700: Ka’Deem Carey, RB $7,300: DaVaris Daniels, WR $7,700: William Stanback, RB $6,700.
