Diogo Jota injury update: When will Jota be back for Liverpool?

Liverpool will be without Diogo Jota for at least two upcoming fixtures after the injury-prone forward sustained another issue last weekend.

Jota played a key role in the Reds’ win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, scoring the third goal in a crucial 3-1 win. The Portuguese forward has suffered with a number of injuries over the past two years and picked up another in the Fulham victory.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Everton on Wednesday, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Jota would be out for two weeks.

“I cannot really say a lot about it, to be honest. Before which Game where he didn’t start, he got a knock – normal challenge, then felt a little bit at the hip. That was then fine because we didn’t start him, brought him on, that was alright,” he said. “It’s not a big one. When I say two weeks, actually really it’s pretty much nothing but enough to not be available.”

What is Diogo Jota’s injury history?

The 27-year-old has developed into a key offensive weapon for Liverpool but his time at Anfield has been disrupted by countless injuries. The latest is only a minor knock but it represents the eighth injury sustained by Jota since joining the club in 2020.

Over the past four seasons Jota has missed an astonishing 75 games due to injury and that number is set to rise over the coming weeks.

Among the most serious of those injuries was a knee issue in December 2020 that saw him miss had a season for Liverpool. Jota injured his calf in October 2022 and was not able to return until February 2023, missing 24 matches as Liverpool struggled to a fifth-place Premier League finish.

Jota had only recently returned from a knee collateral liGament tear sustained earlier this year, one that had kept him out of action for 51 days. He made a substitute appearance in the loss to Crystal Palace before playing for 74 minutes against Fulham. Liverpool fans will hope that this latest untimely absence does not prove decisive in their title bid.
