Celtic Could be in Line for Increased Transfer Windfall – Report
Celtic may have to wait longer for a potential financial boost from Jeremie Frimpong’s transfer but Bayer Leverkusen’s plans could see the Celtic side rake in a lot more than they are currently entitled to.
The Bundesliga champions are reportedly working to eliminate or increase the release clause in Frimpong’s contract amid interest from major clubs like Manchester United.
Frimpong, who has significantly contributed to Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title under Xabi Alonso, is currently under a €40 million,£34 million, release clause. This clause has attracted attention from many top clubs around Europe.
Celtic stands to gain substantially from this transfer due to a 30% of profit sell-on clause agreed upon when Frimpong moved from the Scottish Premiership to Leverkusen.
However, Leverkusen’s latest manoeuvres could complicate matters. According to reports from BILD, the German club is aggressively persuading Frimpong to sign a new contract that would either increase the release clause or remove it entirely.
This development could delay the expected cash injection to Celtic Park.
It’s now a waiting Game for the Hoops.
