Celtic announce double contract renewal as Bhoys build for the future
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is continuing to establish his vision at Parkhead since returning north of the border last summer.
In addition to the Irishman’s signings over the last two windows, there has also been no shortage of new contract renewals as Rodgers and company lay the foundations for long-term success.
Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate, and Matt O’Riley all put pen to paper on extensions in 2023; meanwhile, Liam Scales signed a fresh four-year deal last week to cement his rise from obscurity to becoming a valuable first-team member.
Whether to safeguard prize assets or as a reward for individual exploits, the practice has taken on an important role during the 2023/24 campaign.
Lennoxtown graduates Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata have also discussed prolonging their stay at the reigning Scottish Premiership champions; however, no agreement has been reached with either prospect.
Negotiations are never far away between the club and players who they feel can bring value to the table over the coming years.
Adam Montgomery and Joey Dawson sign new Celtic deals
Taking to social media platform X, Celtic have announced that left-back Adam Montgomery and striker Joey Dawson have committed to one-year extensions at Parkhead.
After returning from a short loan stint at Motherwell due to injury, Montgomery is now tied to his boyhood team until the summer of 2027. Meanwhile, Dawson, a Celtic B regular, is now contracted until 2025.
Both deals come with a sense of intrigue for Celtic fans, as it may signal a chance for either one of the pair to impress in pre-season under Rodgers despite having no involvement this campaign.
Overall, Montgomery has played 20 times for the first team across all competitions, registering one assist against Aberdeen [Transfermarkt].
Dawson made his solitary senior appearance away to St Johnstone in December 2021 due to a striker availability crisis under Ange Postecoglou.
Celtic continue to build for the future, and it appears we could well see some fringe players given an unexpected olive branch over the coming months to prove they deserve to be at the club.
