Paul George’s future is one of the most intriguing topics worth keeping an eye on heading into the NBA offseason.

Before the year began, most expected the Los Angeles Clippers to offer Kawhi Leonard and George contract extensions. The former got his, but the latter remains a soon-to-be free agent.

Last week, a report surfaced suggesting that one team was preparing to make a very serious run at George over the summer.

This week, ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst offered his take on where George will play basketball next season.

“I think the league believes that Paul George wants to remain a Clipper, and there would be concern in the league about recruiting Paul George — especially if you had to give away players to open up space,” Windhorst said on ‘The Hoops Collective’ a few days ago.

“… My informed speculation is that, eventually, Paul will agree to a deal with the Clippers. It may not be for the full max, but it may be for more than what the Clippers have been offering.”

It is worth remembering, the Clippers currently face one big roadblock when it comes to re-signing George.

But if they figure out a way around it, re-signing George may prove to be a viable option.

The Clippers can offer George a 4-year, $221.1 million extension this summer.

Another team could give him a 4-year, $212.2 million deal.

The Clippers literally just re-signed Leonard to a three-year extension worth up to $152.7 million — so that will no doubt be fresh in George’s mind as he negotiates with the team’s front office.

Where will George ultimately decide to play ball when the 2024-25 NBA season officially tips off? Time will tell.
