Bottas identifies 'main focus' for Alfa Romeo: A lot of work to do

Valtteri Bottas admits that Alfa Romeo's "main focus" needs to be on making a step forwards after failing to score points at the Miami Grand Prix.

After struggling in the midfield battle so far in 2023, the team looked to have had a more positive day during qualifying at the Miami International Autodrome, with Bottas reaching Q3 and starting from P10 on the grid.

However, the Finn was unable to match this on race day and slipped out of a points-paying position, eventually ending the event in P13.

While Bottas feels there were good signs to take away from the weekend, he believes that Alfa Romeo have "a lot of work to do" in order to be regularly fighting for points again.

Bottas: We must keep working to improve

"There are some positives to take from this weekend, although there is still a lot of work to do to be fighting in the top 10," Bottas explained after the race.

"The start of my race was quite good: we made up a few places and were well into the points.

"I tried my best to keep up the fight and defend my position; unfortunately, we didn't quite have the pace we showed [on Saturday], when we had managed to be comPetitive on the single lap.

"I think our finishing position reflects where we stand at the moment, and we must keep working to improve."

Upgrades coming for Imola

With the team bringing upgrades to the forthcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Bottas is hopeful that the squad can make further progress.

"Our main focus now needs to be on making that extra step forward to be comPetitive again," the 10-time race winner said.

"We will bring new parts in Imola, and hopefully they will allow us to progress and get back in the fight for points.

"I am confident in the work we are doing as a team, and I am looking forward to the next rounds."

Alfa Romeo currently sit eighth in the Constructors' Championship on six points, putting them two points behind seventh-placed Haas.
