A strange metallic ball with inscriptions falls from the sky in the Bahamas

A British woman, Manon Clarke, spotted the 41 kg reflective ball sticking out of the sand as she walked with her family on Harbor Island on Wednesday night.

“We were walking to a different location than usual and I noticed a bright silver moon projecting itself on the sand,” the 24-year-old told The Independent.

“We could see the Russian writing on the side so we started digging to see more, which was a bit of a bold move as we had no idea what it was.”

Space experts believe the ball could be a hydrazine propellant tank for a satellite or spacecraft, although uncertainty remains about where it came from and how it ended up on the beach.

This ball is made of metallic titanium, with a weight of 41 kilos, it is a metal that is used by types of industries including aerospace, as it weighs less than steel, but whoever found this treasure says that it does not have the price of gold because a kilo is sold at 150 dollars or 125 euros, a 5,125 euros…

Already being analyzed by a team of researchers from the United Kingdom, led by Dr. Martin Acher, they examined the metal ball and concluded that it could be part of the fuel system of an unknown satellite or spacecraft.

Experts could not give a clear answer to the question of how this object ended up in the Bahamas. From the inscription that they are in Russian, it became known that it was manufactured in 2018. The rest of the information is related to the operating temperature range of the ball and its dimensions, there is not much else written in this language.

Russian text on the object indicates that it has an operating temperature range between -170C and -196C, a capacity of around 43 litres, a maximum weight of around 41kg and also suggests that it may have been built in 2018.

According to experts, spacecraft often dump used equipment in the Pacific Ocean as far away from Earth as possible, also called Point Nemo. As the calculation of the entry of a part into the Earth’s atmosphere is not always accurate, they can be found in the most unexpected places and this incident in the Bahamas is a clear example of this.

Martin Archer, UKRI Stephen Hawking Fellow in Space Physics and Public Engagement at the Department of Physics at Imperial College London, said “it’s clearly a hydrazine propellant/bladder tank”, which “are usually used in screwless spacecraft or satellites and compression propellant in rocket engines or propellants. ”

It cannot be determined how or where the tank came from, but Dr. Sarah Hudspith, Associate Professor of Russian at the University of Leeds, said “the object could have originated from Cuba, as Cuba was allied with the Soviet Union, from which it obtained all kinds of equipment”.

Unable to move the tank, Mrs. Clarke and her parents went home to show the neighbors his pictures, soon realizing it was something significant.

She said: “We left the beach as it was getting late and we came back the next day with a team of friends to try and get him off the beach. We stupidly forgot the shovels, so we asked about six guys to dig a lot. ”

But he said one thing to keep in mind is that most satellites or parts of satellites that come back to Earth will fall into the ocean.

“But of course not all satellites enter the atmosphere under such controlled circumstances.”

The Doctor. Archer said that while there isn’t much evidence of charring on the tank, it wouldn’t have been on the outside of the satellite, so there’s a chance it could have come from an extinct satellite.

He added: “But it could also have been a spare part that accidentally ended up in the ocean. Ocean currents are known to transport garbage across our planet, so it will be next to impossible to determine exactly what journey this tank has been on. ”

Mrs. Clarke said the unknown adds to the excitement: “Thinking about the possible places he could have come from, how long he’s been there, how he got there.
