Jason Kelce is set to announce his retirement and bring his 13-year career in the NFL to a close, league sources say.

The 36-year-old was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles as the 191st pick in the 2011 draft. He has gone on to be selected for the Pro Bowl seven times and won Super Bowl LII with the Eagles.

Philadelphia’s post-season journey was brought to a close on Monday evening with a resounding 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Eagles finished second in NFC East but were comfortably outplayed in the Wild Card fixture.

Kelce reportedly told teammates of his intention to retire in the locker room after Monday’s game. The 36-year-old appeared emotional at the end of the game and refused to speak to reporters post-match.

What will Jason Kelce do next?

He is one of the most recognizable figures in NFL and has made a number of television appearances in recent years. Kelce appeared in a Super Bowl-themed episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia in 2018.

He has also appeared in sketches for Saturday Night Live (SNL), featuring along brother Travis and SNL members Heidi Gardner and Chloe Fineman.

He has also shown a willingness to appear in non-fiction productions and was the focus of a feature-length Amazon Prime documentary charting his Football career and personal life. ‘Kelce’ became the No. 1 most-watched movie on the platform within 24 hours of its release.

He also stars in a podcast with his brother, entitled New Heights. The two NFL stars talk about the week’s NFL action and discuss life. If Jason retires, we could see him taking the opportunity to pass comment on his brother’s games with the Kansas City Chiefs.

What did Jason Kelce say about his retirement?

At time of writing the Eagles star has not officially confirmed his retirement. However in recent days he has hinted that this season could be his last.

“Whenever you’re older in your career, you never know when that’s gonna be,” he said ahead of Monday’s Game, when asked about the prospect of retirement. “I try to remind guys, and I’ve done this, and my dad’s told me this from the moment I started playing Football; You step off the curb one day and, you know, that could be the end of your career.”

“So you try and approach every Game with that mindset, but obviously, the closer and the older you get to that being a realization puts it out in front maybe a little bit more,” he added.
