Video: Frijns breaks wrist in Formula E collision
Dutch driver Robin Frijns appears likely to require surgery after fracturing his wrist in the 2023 Formula E season opener in Mexico City.
Moving from Envision to the returning Abt team for this season, Frijns started Saturday's race down in 19th as his team lacked pace.
As the field jostled for position on Lap 1, Frijns was hit from behind by Sam Bird, which forced the Dutchman into the back of Norman Nato.
Onboard footage of the crash shows Frijns' steering wheel being violently wrenched from his grasp as his front wheel made contact with Nato's Nissan.
A statement by Frijns' team initially said that the Dutchman would require surgery in Mexico City, though this was later changed to read that Frijns was instead merely being examined at a local hospital.
