US Open Golf 2-ball Picks and Predictions for the Final Round
Sunday at the US Open should be a fun one. Rickie Fowler has a chance to win his first major title and Rory McIlroy is in contention to end his major drought. They won’t be playing together, though, because Wyndham Clark birdied the last hole on Saturday to keep himself in the final group with Fowler. They are tied at the top at 10-under, leading McIlroy by 1 shot. Scottie Scheffler stands in fourth place at 7-under after an electric finish to his third round brought him back into the mix.
With that, it’s time to dive into some of the best 2-ball bets for the fourth and final round of the season’s third major.

Rory McIlroy (+135) to beat Scottie Scheffler
There is no way I’m passing up McIlroy as a heavy underdog in a head-to-head pairing with Scheffler on Sunday. Scheffler is 3 shots back of the lead, whereas McIlroy is only 1 back. Obviously that isn’t a huge difference, but it’s enough that Scheffler may have to take a few more risks — especially if he doesn’t get off to a hot start. McIlroy, on the other hand, can simply play rock-solid golf early and see where that puts him on the leaderboard heading into the back 9. It should also be noted that Scheffler wouldn’t even be in serious contention if he had not holed out for eagle on 17 and then made an improbable birdie putt on 18. McIlroy has been the better player from start to finish so far at Los Angeles Country Club.
Tom Kim (+125) to beat Bryson DeChambeau
DeChambeau isn’t all the way back to his 2020 US Open-winning self; not even close, in fact. The big-hitting American has played well every now and then in 2023 and is doing so this week, but there is no consistency. DeChambeau was in contention following round 1 at 3-under, but even par the rest of the way (72 and 68) wasn’t enough to put him in position heading into Sunday. A closing bogey on 18 also didn’t help. Kim has improved every day, from 73 to 68 to 67. The 20-year-old is another player who has great value as a considerable underdog in his 2-ball matchup.

Sahith Theegala (-170) to beat Charley Hoffman
Let’s go with a favorite to round out this trio of 2-ball picks. Hoffman had to qualify just to get into the US Open and he did well to make the cut. However, the veteran has been over par in 2 of the 3 rounds – including a dreadful 5-over 77 on Saturday. Any early momentum that Hoffman had this week has gone out the window. Theegala was also unspectacular in round 3, but a 73 ended with a nice birdie on 18. The California native is a rising star on tour and has been the much better player than Hoffman this season. I expect him to be a lot better on Sunday, too.
