tl.BREAKING: Chelsea have entered the race to sign this Spanish goalkeeper for Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea want to sign this goalkeeper for Enzo Maresca.

The Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea era is set to kickstart and the Blues are working hard towards making key changes to the squad.

Per Fabrizio Romano,  Chelsea have acquired the signature of Tosin Adarabioyo and the defender is going to be the Blues’ first signing of the Maresca era.

Chelsea are also keen to bolster in the goalkeeper position.

Chelsea are eyeing Las Palmas goalkeeper Alvaro Valles,” report The Mirror.

“Valles’ contract expires in 2025 and Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez is ready to sell after rejecting a £17 million bid from Nottingham Forest in January.”

Who is Alvaro Valles?

With Chelsea already having three goalkeepers (including Bettinelli), and Kepa set to return from loan at Real Madrid,  one would wonder why the Blues have any need for a sixth, because of course, we can’t leave Gabriel Slonina who is on loan at Belgian Pro League club K.A.S Eupen out of the picture.

Per the Mirror, Enzo Maresca wants a ball-playing shot-stopper between the sticks at Stamford Bridge next season as he looks to implement a possession-based style of play and the 26-year-old Spaniard may fit the bill. Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen played a prominent role under Maresca at the King Power Stadium – not only keeping the opposition at bay but also clearing up in behind the Foxes’ backline and building play from the back.

Statistics suggest Valles was the best ‘sweeper keeper’ in Europe’s top-five leagues this season after regaining possession 38 times – no goalkeeper achieved more. But he also boasts great reflexes after preventing the second most goals in La Liga behind another name of interest, Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The mirror also reports that Sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are big on data and they will work in tandem with the club’s scouts, recruitment staff and Maresca to finalise their list of summer transfer targets. The underlying numbers behind Valles’ remarkable breakthrough season will inevitably be flagged by key data algorithms.

Here’s a clip of Alvaro Valles that seems convincing enough as to why Enzo Maresca wants him to be the Blues’ no.1 next season:
