“Using adult stem cells drawn from bone marrow and umbilical cord blood system cells, scientists have discovered new treatments for scores of diseases and conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, juvenile diabetes, and spinal cord injuries.” ~ Nathan Deal

Every year there is a growing need for donors that will provide stem cells and bone marrow to those fighting diseases that these resources can be used to defeat. From infants to the elderly, there are thousands who are suffering, and there isn’t enough of these resources available to help them. Team Margot Steam Cell And Bone Marrow Awareness Day reminds us that there is more that we can donate than blood, and there are lives that can be saved.

History of Team Margot Stem Cell And Bone Marrow Awareness Day

In October of 2015 the world exploded with Celebrity support and a rising awareness of the need for these resources after Margot Martini, a toddler who was battling leukaemia who ultimately perished in 2014 at the tender age of 2 years and 2 months old. Part of what contributed to her untimely demise was a lack of bone marrow and stem cells being available, and thus began the campaign to make the world aware that more donors were needed. The rate at which people donate bone marrow and stem cells is even lower than that of blood donations. In England, it was revealed that only 3% of citizens donated blood, and this is partially driven by a lack of awareness of just how much the blood banks are suffering for a sufficient variety and quantity of blood to support the hospitals during a crisis. Team Margot Stem Cell and Bone Marrow Registration Awareness Day encourages us to help others, and to raise awareness of the need for these resources so that should we ever need it, it would be available for us.
