Resident Evil 4 Remake Players Find Code To Activate Mad Chainsaw Mode

Soon after the Resident Evil 4 remake's demo dropped last week, players discovered there was a hidden difficulty called "Mad Chainsaw Mode" that would come up randomly on the menu screen. If accepted, the demo became incredibly hard thanks to a ton of new enemies. If declined, the demo plays out as it normally would, offering a challenging but beatable scenario for Leon that sets up the rest of the remake.

Players thought that Mad Chainsaw Mode was completely random, but it turns out we were wrong. A code was discovered over the weekend that, when input correctly, will get Mad Chainsaw Mode to activate every single time. We have speedrunner 7rayD to thank for the PlayStation code, while the other codes come courtesy of Reddit.

The codes are slightly different depending on the platform, but they're all input from the main menu with "Main Game" highlighted. On PlayStation, hold down both L1 and R1, and then press Up, Left, Down, Right, Square, Triangle, Circle, X, and then X again to confirm input. For Xbox, hold down LB and RB, then Up, Left, Down, Right, X, Y, B, A and A. You should hear a bang if you've done it right.

Things are a little more complicated on Steam because the buttons you have to press are normally associated with the Steam Overlay, so you'll need to disable that to get the code to work. For Mad Chainsaw Mode on Steam, hold Shift and Space, then type W, A, S, D, R, Tab, C, F, and F. Then release Space and Shift and then press F to confirm.

Mad Chainsaw Mode is hard, but there's a secret weapon that can make this most difficult of demos a lot easier. The TMP is in the Game, but you have to perform a dangerous maneuver in order to unlock it. First, you need to get to the basement where you run into the first enemy in the demo. Then, discard every item in your inventory (yes, all of them) and head to the village. Once there, head towards the church and then hang a left to the water well that's normally sealed shut. Leon should now be able to climb down the well to open a chest with the TMP inside.
