Fall prevention: Balance, Breath & Movement will be the first topic presented at the Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL)‘s March Lunch and Learn Workshop (In-Person and on Zoom) on March 29th at noon.

The first presentation is by Kathy O’Neel Webster, owner of ShipShape. Learn to identify your personal risk for falls, how to fall to minimize injuries, and how you can make your environment safer and your body stronger to reduce your chance of falls.

MOST FALLS ARE PREVENTABLE! Come learn about steps you can take today to preserve your Health and independence.

A second presentation is about Person Centered Options Counseling (PCOC) programs. OSCIL is a part of a network of community providers offering Person Centered Options Counseling (PCOC). Person Centered Options Counseling helps Rhode Islanders understand the choices they have about assistance that could make it easier for them to remain in their home or residence. These services are also known as long-term services and supports (LTSS).

PCOC is free, can be done either by phone or in person, and provides individuals with unbiased information about the long-term care services and supports options available to them. It is an interactive process that helps individuals to identify their needs and goals and connects them to resources in a way they can understand.

Space is limited to attend in-person, advance registration by March 24th.  To register, contact Heather Schey at 738-1013 or by email [email protected]. Location to attend in person is 1944 Warwick Ave, Warwick, RI

To attend via Zoom: Use Meeting ID #872 2748 0787

Lunch and refreshments will be available in person. A Sign Language Interpreter has been secured and captioning will be available. Contact us at least one week in advance if other accommodations are needed.

About the Ocean State Center for Independent Living

OSCIL works to improve the life experience for people with disability by promoting self-direction and integration into the community, and provides a wide range of independent living services to help individuals meet these goals.

Our Mission

The Ocean State Center for Independent Living is a non-residential, consumer-driven, community-based, cross-disability, non-profit organization. OSCIL was established in 1988 to provide a range of independent living services to enhance, through self-direction, the quality of life for persons with disability and to promote integration into the community. OSCIL is governed by an active Board of Directors comprised largely of persons having disabilities, who play a major role in setting policy and programming.
