We’re now a month into the 2023-24 NHL season, and there has been no shortage of storylines. We’re also now starting to get a better picture of who teams are, which helps on nights such as tonight when we have 10 Games to break down. After seeing 3 of last night’s 4 Games have a 1-goal finish, we certainly want to be on the right side of things. I’ve picked my top spots for tonight and pieced them together for a mega payout.
NHL Parlay Picks (11/7)
Rangers -1.5 (+150)
Jets 3-way ML (+120)
Avalanche 3-way ML (-110)
Parlay odds +940
New York Rangers -1.5 (+150) over Detroit Red Wings
Plenty of attention has been given to the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights thanks to their incredible 11-1-1 start, and rightfully so. However, it has overshadowed what the Rangers have been able to do in the Eastern Conference. They sit atop the Metropolitan Division at 8-2-1, and that’s after a long 5-Game road stretch out west and in Canada. They’ll be back in Madison Square Garden tonight to take on the Red Wings, who admittedly have been stronger this season.
One of the primary reasons for that has been the addition of Alex DeBrincat and the boost he brings to the offense. However, New York is not the team to play when you’re expected to score plenty of goals. Netminder Igor Shesterkin is just two seasons removed from winning the Vezina Trophy and has helped the Rangers hold the 4th-best goaltending market at just 2.63 goals allowed per game. The Wings are just outside the bottom 10 in that regard, so I’ll back New York with the first of my NHL parlay picks.
Winnipeg Jets 3-way ML (+120) over St. Louis Blues
We’re heading to the Western Conference for the other two legs, beginning in St. Louis. The game being there is a benefit to the Blues, but that’s about all I expect to be positive from them tonight. They’re close in the standings, but not close in the goaltending department. Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck is among the top favorites for this year’s Vezina Trophy, and he should have another strong night with the lack of St. Louis firepower. Let’s not forget that they cleaned house prior to the trade deadline last year, which included former captain Ryan O’Reilly.
We just saw him have a hat-trick the other night, which is exactly what the Blues are missing. Even if they do get a boost offensively, Jordan Binnington is expected to be in net. He was between the pipes when these teams met earlier this season, which was a multi-goal win for the Jets. That was simply the continuation of a trend, as each of the first 3 Games between the teams last season saw Winnipeg win by at least 2 goals, including a 4-0 shutout. I’ll trust Winnipeg to get the job done yet again.
Avalanche 3-way ML (-110) over New Jersey Devils
I mentioned the Knights’ incredible start to the season, but the Avalanche also need to be mentioned in that regard. They began the year 6-0-0, and while they’re on a minor skid, I expect them to bounce back on home ice. They lost 3 of their last 4, but those were all on the road, and the win came at home against the Blues, to further support the previous pick. Regardless, Colorado is at home against a Devils team that has significant injury issues.
Youngster Jack Hughes was announced as week-to-week, so he won’t be on the ice. He was the league’s leading point-scorer, and that came after the news that Nico Hischier was already injured. So, if you’re wondering why the Avs are such heavy favorites despite playing an otherwise-strong team, that’s why. Therefore, we don’t expect the Devils to have the firepower to keep pace with the Avs, who have already put up 6 goals against a great defensive team in the Carolina Hurricanes. I’ll take Colorado to win in regulation to complete this parlay.
