Panthers ML (+125)

It took 7 periods with just 12 seconds to spare before a 5th overtime period, but the Panthers pulled out a Game 1 win. That victory marked Florida’s 8th in their last 9 Games and the Panthers are playing too well to feel comfortable fading them. They have arguably had the most difficult path to this point and have just bullied their opponents since going down 3-1 in their opening series. Until the Panthers show anything different, they should continue to be a reliable play.

The Hurricanes notoriously have a very difficult barn to visit. That did not matter for the Panthers in Game 1, though, and it did not matter when they visited Boston or Toronto either. Florida has gone through a gauntlet of opponents both in terms of the quality of teams and the hostility of the venues. The Panthers have been unfazed and have now won 7 straight on the road in raucous environments. It’s tough to jump off them now.

Brandon Montour over 0.5 goals (+380)

Brandon Montour is a huge reason the Panthers got by the Bruins and also helped to kickstart their domination over the Maple Leafs. He had a career season by far with 73 points in 80 games and has kept it rolling into the playoffs. Montour is tied for the most goals and 4th in points on the hottest team remaining. He has come through when needed for Florida this postseason. While +380 is higher odds than other goalscorers in the game, Brandon Montour scoring would not exactly be going out on a limb.

Game 1 against the Panthers was an outlier considering they played 2.33 games in just a single night. Putting that game aside, Montour has played around half of the prior 3 games. He hovered around 22 minutes to 28 minutes of ice time per game through Game 2 against Toronto. He has since logged 29 minutes, 29 minutes and 32 minutes of ice time. Montour is one of the best players on the ice in this series, has come through in these playoffs and plays with great teammates for nearly half the game. He should get opportunities and has proved he can finish when he does.
