Lonzo Ball is one of the more polarizing players in NBA history. A lot of people would argue that, if not for his father’s expert salesmanship, he wouldn’t be as widely known as he is today.

Moreover, those same people would also make the case that if not for his dad, the Los Angeles Lakers would have never taken Lonzo with the No. 2 overall pick ahead of Jayson Tatum.

Now while L.A. was still able to parlay Lonzo and Brandon Ingram to the New Orleans Pelicans for Anthony Davis, and then subsequently won a chip with the latter, it’s hard to give perPetually-injured Lonzo much credit for that.

Lonzo, it would be appear, doesn’t think too highly of Kobe Bryant in the GOAT conversation.

During a recent podcast appearance with his brother LiAngelo Ball, Lonzo seemed to call Kobe out for being overrated.

“I love Kobe Bryant, but he was never the best player to me when I was watching him,” he said.

“Just because he’s got the most misses ever, you know what I’m saying? I don’t know. But back to [Stephen] Curry—his resume, the way he changed the game—he’s the best shooter ever. Carried USA. There ain’t nothing that he hasn’t done, and he’s got the rings to back it up too. So, I don’t know.”

The problem with Lonzo’s Kobe slander is that it completely ignores the fact that the Lakers legend was a significantly better all-around player than Curry. Yes, the latter is objectively the best shooter in NBA history.

But in his prime, Kobe was arguably the best perimeter defender in the league. He was Michael Jordan-esque in that regard.

It isn’t too surprising that Lonzo doesn’t know his history, though. It’s pretty on-brand for him.
