Leon's Knife In Resident Evil 4 Remake Is The One Marvin Gave Him In RE2

The Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo reveals that the combat knife Leon carries around with him is the same one that Marvin gave him at the start of Resident Evil 2.

Earlier this week, Capcom unleashed a demo for the Resident Evil 4 remake that lets you play through the first half an hour of the Game. Beyond letting us see how the Game plays, it's given Resident Evil fans a chance to pour through every inch of the demo and uncover a bunch of cool secrets, including an uber-difficult difficulty mode, a hidden TMP, and a quote from Leon that has thankfully stood the test of time.

Another interesting detail has been spotted Redditor Torsythe and shared on the Resident Evil subreddit. If you take a look at Leon's inventory in the demo, each item has a brief descriptor to tell you a little bit about them. The description for the combat knife reads, "A weapon suited for close encounters. It has been Leon's go-to since receiving it during his time at the R.P.D.".

This is a clear reference to a scene that happens right at the beginning of Leon's campaign in the Resident Evil 2 remake. After nearly getting eaten by a zombie, Leon meets Marvin, a Raccoon City police officer, who then gives him his combat knife to help him out as he explored the police department. It seems that Leon has held onto the knife since then and has made it one of his main weapons.

As nice as it is to reference Marvin and the impact he had on Leon, many comments underneath the post point out how unlikely this actually is. The combat knife in Resident Evil 2 had barely any durability and most players end up replacing it several times over during their playthrough, either leaving it lodged in zombies or having it snap in half before they've even got out of the police station. It's a nice thought, at least.
