Left 4 Dead 3 Reference Turns Up In Counter-Strike 2 Files
Left 4 Dead fans have been left buzzing with excitement after a screenshot posted to the Steam subreddit revealed a reference to “left4dead3” in the files for the recently announced Counter-Strike 2. This could of course be hinting that another entry in the Left 4 Dead series may be on the horizon.
The code in question includes a few details like version, owner, severity, priority, category, product, and component with “severity high” and “priority none” catching the attention of many fans. While it's not clear what this information actually means, the screenshot has caused many to speculate that a new Left 4 Dead Game could very well be in development, at least in some capacity.
This isn't the first time that rumors about Left 4 Dead 3 have made the rounds on social media. It has long been believed that Valve was developing the Game, but decided to put things on hold until its new engine, Source 2, became fully developed. While the studio has repeatedly denied any plans for the Game, the reference found in Counter-Strike 2 has reignited hope among fans of the series.
Valve's focus has clearly been on other projects in recent years including the Steam Deck and the VR experience Half-Life: Alyx, but with the long awaited and still highly anticipated Counter-Strike 2 finally confirmed, many fans are hopeful that Left 4 Dead 3 could actually be on the horizon. When this may be released of course remains completely up in the air.
Someone leaked a playable prototype of the original Left 4 Dead earlier this year. This particular version of the Game allowed players to experience the original concept and see how the design evolved into the iconic zombie shooter. The news naturally spread like wildfire within the community, reigniting passions and reviving interest in this fan favorite series.
While it remains unclear whether Left 4 Dead 3 is actually in development, the reference purportedly found in Counter-Strike 2 has certainly given fans something to be excited about. As always however, Valve is remaining silent about its development plans, meaning that at least for now, players will just have to wait and see what the future holds for the Left 4 Dead series.
