The Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels meet Sunday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this Game. Here’s a LA Angels vs Houston Astros Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
Justin Verlander will get the start for the Astros here and is 3-2 with a 3.63 ERA and 48 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the Angels, Verlander is 3-2 with a 4.03 ERA and 37 strikeouts. Patrick Sandoval will get the nod for the Angels here and is 2-8 with a 5.00 ERA and 71 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against Houston, Sandoval is 0-3 with a 6.94 ERA and 23 strikeouts.
Houston Astros Recap
The Houston Astros come into this one looking to complete the sweep of the Angels after picking up the series win with a 6-1 win over the Angels on Saturday. The series win gave the Astros back-to-back series wins after knocking off the Cardinals to start the week, and the sweep of the Angels would just be the cherry on top.
Astros Starting To String It Together
Jose Altuve has 76 hits and a .288 batting average with 9 home runs, 22 RBIs and 12 doubles while Kyle Tucker has a team-high 19 homers with 11 doubles and 40 RBIs. Yordan Alvarez also has 13 homers with 33 RBIs while Tucker has the Astros’ team lead with 10 stolen bases so far this season. Jeremy Pena also has 75 hits and a .302 batting average as well this season.
Why the Houston Astros will win
- The Angels have lost each of their last seven games against American League opponents.
- The Astros have won each of their last nine Sunday road games against American League opponents.
- The road team has covered the run line in each of the last six games between the Astros and Angels.
- The Angels have failed to cover the run line each of their last five home games against American League opponents that held a losing record.
- The Astros have led after 5 innings in each of their last four day games against American League opponents.
Los Angeles Angels Recap
The Los Angeles Angels come into this Game looking to salvage something from this series after their loss to the Astros on Saturday. The loss meant that the Angels would be unable to string together back-to-back series wins after sweeping the Padres to start the week.
Angels Having Offensive Issues
Taylor Ward leads the Angels with 59 hits along with 11 home runs and a team-high 34 RBIs. Mike Trout also has 10 home runs along with a pair of triples and 6 stolen bases, but remains out indefinitely with injury while Zach Neto has 55 strikeouts and 8 stolen bases. Luis Rengifo also has a team-high 15 stolen bases while Jo Adell has 11 home runs, 27 RBIs and 9 stolen bases as well.
Why the Los Angeles Angels will win
- The Astros have lost six of their last seven games as favorites against American League opponents following a win.
- The Angels have won three of their last four games as underdogs after playing the previous day.
- The Angels have covered the run line each of their last four day games against teams that held a losing record.
- The Astros have failed to cover the run line in each of their last four day games following a win.
LA Angels vs Houston Astros Prediction
I’m on the Astros here. The Angels just can’t string together offense at the best of times, and Patrick Sandoval has also put the Angels behind the 8-ball more often than not whenever he’s been on the mound. There’s been good and bad outings for Justin Verlander and times where he hasn’t necessarily looked like the Verlander of old, but I think he will be enough here and the Astros bats back him up enough to get the win in this one. Give me Houston here.
