Kingdom Hearts Fans Discuss What Happened To Tidus, Wakka, And Selphie

Kingdom Hearts fans are discussing what they think happened to Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie after the events of the original Game, as the odd collection of Final Fantasy characters have rarely been referenced since.

Although Nomura has argued against it in recent years, one of the defining features of Kingdom Hearts is its status as a crossover between Disney and Final Fantasy. Characters like Cloud, Squall, and Yuffie have played big roles in the series' earlier Games, but not every Final Fantasy cameo has been treated with as much respect or consistency.

Case in point - Tidus, Wakka, and Selphie. This trio of two Final Fantasy 10 characters and one from Final Fantasy 8 appear in the first world of the whole series, Destiny Islands, as aged-down versions of themselves. They're supposed to be childhood friends of Sora, Kairi, and Riku, but barely have any screen time, voice lines, or purpose, and only Selphie has made a proper appearance outside of the first Game.

With their sporadic appearances in mind, Kingdom Hearts fans have been sharing their theories about what they think happened to the trio after the events of the first game. Redditor amtummi pointed out that Selphie at least plays some role in the story in Kingdom Hearts 2, acting as Kairi's friend while she waits for her memories of Sora to return.

Hikari-Sakishima also noted that both Tidus and Wakka get mentioned by Selphie, who says that they're wrapped up in Blitzball. This confirms that the two are alive and well after the Destiny Islands were restored and suggests that they'll eventually end up like they were in Final Fantasy 10.

We may never get to see Tidus, Wakka, or Selphie again, but these scenes from Kingdom Hearts 2 suggest that they were completely fine after the events of the original game and simply didn't have anything else to add to the plot. Redditor ZeroSora has the most brutally honest answer out of the whole thread, pointing out that they "stopped being relevant" and are now likely just normal people living on Destiny Islands.

And hey, now that Kingdom Hearts is seemingly moving away from Final Fantasy altogether, we'll just have to assume that they turn out like they did in their respective Games, even if being aged down makes it all a bit complicated.
