Kasper Schmeichel Reveals the Details Behind His Celtic Transfer
Celtic’s marquee signing of the summer so far, Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel joined the Hoops as a free agent following the Euros.
The stopper reunites with his old boss Brendan Rodgers at the Scottish champions and has penned a one-year deal with the option of another in Glasgow’s east end.
Already in pre-season, Schmeichel has impressed, making some wonderful saves and appearing more than able with the ball at his feet.
Once Celtic’s initial interest in him came out, it wasn’t long before he was confirmed as a new addition to Rodgers’ squad.
The deal was done promptly, and the 37-year-old recently revealed the details behind it.
Schmeichel was asked when he first heard of Celtic’s interest in him.
“It was probably three or four days after we (Denmark) went out (of the Euros) to Germany”, he told CeltsAreHere.
“That was probably the first time.
“(I had) a face time call with Brendan (Rodgers), it didn’t take very long.
“I was out of contract, so it was quite an easy deal to make.
“The only issue we had was I was in Sardinha with my family and I had to get a medical done.
“That was the only thing that made things take a little bit longer.”
The Hoops’ new number one is eager to make his full Celtic debut on Sunday against Kilmarnock.
It will be a special occasion as Lisbon Lion Jim Craig unfurls another league flag in front of a sold-out Paradise.
