Jets - 49ers injury report for NFL Monday Night Football week 1: Reddick, McCaffrey and Banks
The New York Jets face a difficult start to the season as they prepare for their Monday Night Football opener against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium.
The New York Jets, without Reddick
The Jets, who have spent the past few offseasons focusing on building a “win-now” roster to end their long playoff drought, will be without one of their marquee offseason acquisitions, Pro Bowl edge rusher Haason Reddick. Reddick, known for his consistency with 10+ sacks in each of the last four seasons, has been holding out for a new contract and has yet to report to the team. Jets head coach Robert Saleh, a familiar face to 49ers fans from his time as their defensive coordinator, confirmed that Reddick will not play in Monday’s Game.
Reddick is the only player in the NFL still holding out at this point in the season. Saleh acknowledged that the Jets placed Reddick on the “reserve/did not report” list at the start of training camp, and he remains on that list. This absence could seriously blow the Jets’ defense as they prepare to face that dynamic 49ers offense.
Two days ago, the left-back Zaire Barnes was definitely ruled out for an ankle injury, and his comeback was not revealed.
The San Francisco 49ers team missing some crucial players
On the 49ers’ side, the injury report ahead of Monday Night Football presents some concerns but also a sense of optimism. Star running back Christian McCaffrey is listed as questionable with calf and Achilles issues, but all signs point to him suiting up for the game.
McCaffrey has been a key player since being traded from the Carolina Panthers last season, where he led the NFL in touches and amassed over 2,000 all-purpose yards. However, his high usage rate and History of injuries, including a calf injury late last season, suggest the team might need to be cautious with him as the season progresses.
Other injury concerns for the 49ers include offensive lineman Aaron Banks, who is questionable, and safety Talanoa Hufanga, who is listed as doubtful.
Linebackers Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) and Dee Winters (ankle) have already been ruled out for the opener.
