Is Taylor Swift Engaged?

We’ve been along for the wild ride that is Taylor Swift’s love life since we first heard “Teardrops on My Guitar” in 2006. Fast-forward nearly two decades later and now we’re wondering if Taylor may have finally, fi-na-lly found the one.

The twelve-time Grammy winner has been dating actor Joe Alwyn for six years, but many fans think Taylor is either secretly engaged or even full-blown married to him.

One of the most recent pieces of evidence is the lyrics for her song, “Lavender Haze,” the first track on her newest album, Midnights. The phrase “lavender haze,” as Taylor shared in a reel on Instagram, is “a common phrase used in the ’50s where they would just describe being in love. If you were in a lavender haze, then that meant that you were in that all-encompᴀssing love glow.”

In verse 2 of the song, Taylor sings, “All they keep asking me (All they keep asking me) / Is if I’m gonna be your bride / The only kinda girl they see (Only kinda girl they see) / Is a one-night or a wife.”

If alarm bells went off in your head just now, same. Some people took those lyrics to suggest Taylor may soon (or already is) someone’s — aka Joe — wife, but other fans felt like Taylor was singing about wanting to be in love with someone without the expectation of marriage.

In June 2022, British tabloid The Sun reported Taylor and Joe were engaged. If you feel like you missed Tay’s big announcement of the happy news, rest ᴀssured you didn’t. According to The Sun, “The loved-up couple have no plans to formally announce their happy news but have confided in their inner circle.” Hmm, sounds suspicious but mkay. The newspaper’s source is allegedly a close friend of Joe’s.

Interestingly, Joe told WSJ. Magazine, as reported by J-14, during an interview back in April 2022, “If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins.” (FYI, Joe is British, and “pound” is United Kingdom currency.)

Joe also said, “I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say.”

With that quote in mind, The Sun’s report that came out two months after Joe’s interview was published could be accurate, but it sounds like we’ll never know the truth. Or, at least we won’t for quite some time. Taylor has kept things even more tight-lipped about her relationship status.

So, unless Taylor and/or Joe personally make an announcement, we have no way to definitively confirm if they’re engaged or not. Guess we’ll have to comb through theory after theory on TikTok about their love life until more concrete news develops.
