MLB pick today: Arizona Diamondbacks ML over Pittsburgh Pirates (-184), 6:35 pm ET

It’s hard to say enough nice things about Arizona’s Zac Gallen and the way he is throwing the baseball this season. The 27-year-old right-hander is 6-1 with a 2.35 ERA, but his peripherals are even more impressive. A league-best 1.78 FIP and a 28.4% K-BB that ranks 3rd in baseball are clear examples of his dominance.

Pittsburgh’s Johan Oviedo had a fantastic start to the season but has since come down to earth with 3 shaky starts in a row against the Dodgers, Nationals and Blue Jays, followed by 5 walks in his last outing against Baltimore. He held the Orioles to only 1 earned run, but his command could continue to be an issue.

Given that Gallen is the far more dominant pitcher and is likely to go much deeper in this game than Oviedo, backing the Diamondbacks to start this series off with a win will be our play.

NBA pick today: Miami Heat vs Boston Celtics – Over 215.5 points (-110), 8:30 pm ET

The floodgates opened in Game 1 as both teams shot over 50% from the field, with 26 threes scored between them. The projected total of 212.5 points was surpassed with ease, which is now 3 straight games between these 2 opponents at TD Garden with over 230 points scored.

The over for Boston has now cashed in 9 of 12 games, including 5 of 6 on the road. For the Heat the O/U record sits at 9-3 in their last 12, while on the road they’ve cashed on the over in 9 of 10, including 5 of the last 6 at TD Garden. Expect more of what we saw in Game 1 and back the over here tonight as well.

NHL pick today: Dallas Stars vs Vegas Golden Knights – Under 5.5 goals (-110), 8:35 pm ET

Both goaltenders have played extremely well to get their respective clubs to this point. Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger is 8-5 with a .903 GAA, while Adin Hill of the Golden Knights is 3-1 with a .934 GAA since taking over for Laurent Brossoit.

During the regular season, both teams ranked top 10 in goals against per game. The Stars were 6th with 3.08 goals against; the Golden Knights were 5th with 3.00 goals against. With this being the first game of the series, expect a feeling-out process between both teams with a lot on the line. For that reason, backing the under will be the play as both goaltenders look to set the tone for this series.

MLB pick today: San Diego Padres ML over Boston Red Sox (-144), 9:40 pm ET

It’s a battle of former left-handed superstars on the mound in this matchup as we get James Paxton vs. Blake Snell in this interleague contest. Paxton is returning from a long injury stint and making his second big league start of the season. In his first start, he gave up just two earned runs in five innings, notching nine strikeouts against a hot Cardinals offense. However, the Padres provide a different kind of challenge. In May, they have a 5-10 record but hitting left-handers hasn’t been the problem.

On the other side, former Cy Young winner Blake Snell will start for the Padres. This season, Snell has posted a 4.61 ERA but his splits have seen a significant improvement against left-handed hitters, many of which he will face in Boston’s lineup, and at home, which is where he will be tonight. Ultimately, expect Snell to win the battle of the starters tonight, so for that reason, backing the Padres to win will be our play.
