Elden Ring Fans Share The Most Interesting Lore They've Discovered

For a Game that has a relatively straightforward narrative (kill everyone, become king, fin) Elden Ring has such extensive lore that no Tarnished could ever dream to comprehend in a single playthrough. Most of us have to resort to deep-dive YouTube videos or Reddit threads to even catch half of the interesting backstory that permeates everything in the Lands Between.

Thankfully, there's a handy Reddit thread that is providing us with only the rarest and most interesting bits of lore in Elden Ring. Starting with user throwawaitnine's haunting discovery of what gets the Omen Killers through their day.

"Omen Killers are Perfumers who use a physick to become emotionless. The Omen curse is a fundamental threat to the Erdtree," they wrote. "The Perfumers know the Omen are innocent and they likely tried to cure them of the curse but when they couldn't Rollo just decided to kill them all."

For those unaware, the Omen are the giant, horned guys that you fight to get into the Altus Plateau and deep in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds beneath Leyndell. Cursed with brutal features and horn-like growths all over their bodies, they're holdovers from the Crucible that somehow are born into the era of the Erdtree and are thus considered heretical to the Golden Order. Those born of noble blood live out their lives in sewers, while the rest are hunted to extinction by the Omen killers.

Another neat bit of Elden Ring lore is how you can find a trail of blood in the Consecrated Snowfield that shows how Mohg escaped the Subterranean Shunning Grounds. You can even take that very same portal to find Mohg at his palace.

A great story that's told through items and weapons is that of Finlay the Cleanrot Knight, who rescued Malenia after she unleashed the scarlet rot in Caelid during her fight with Starscourge Radahn. "Finlay managed to drag the unconscious Malenia all the way back to the Haligtree by herself," recounts Sodsboy on Reddit. "That means she went through Caelid as it was beginning to rot away, fighting off Radahn's army. Through Limgrave and potentially having to fight off Godrick's lot and then up Liurnia and Altus. Finlay had to walk through Leyndell to get to the Consecrated Snowfields to then finally reach the Haligtree again. Talk about dedication."

Lastly, Vyke is a tragic figure in Elden Ring. The first Tarnished to almost become Elden Lord, Vyke got as far as the Mountaintop of the Giants before his journey came to an end. A theory from user AFlyingNun doesn't paint Vyke as a failure but rather a hero who bravely sequestered himself in an Evergaol to prevent the Frenzied Flame from consuming the world.

There's a lot more lore to dive into, so if you've got the time, be sure to check out the whole Reddit thread. And be sure to read up on all the wild speculation for what's to come in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
