2024 RBC Canadian Open
May 30, 2024 8:00 am EDT

This week, Golf fans will be presented with the first round of the RBC Canadian Open. Let’s take a look at the first round of this event from a Draftkings perspective.

Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections, let’s review where the first round of the RBC Canadian Open will be played.

The first round of the 2024 RBC Canadian Open will be played at the Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The Golf course is a par 70 that measures approximately 7,084 yards.

I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.

Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

For those readers who are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single round showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.

If you need to review the specific rules for the single round showdown contests feel free to check out the DraftKings website.

Here are my DraftKings player selections for the first round of the 2024 RBC Canadian Open.

Draftkings First Round Showdown Picks

Shane Lowry $9,900

The 2019 Open Championship has accumulated five top 29 finishes in his last eight tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including an impressive sixth-place result at the 2024 PGA Championship two weeks ago.

Shane Lowry also checks the box for me when it comes to previous event History. Since 2018, Lowry has played the RBC Canadian Open four times. In those four events just noted, Shane Lowry has accumulated three top 12 finishes, including a second-place result at the 2019 RBC Canadian Open.

Corey Conners $9,500

The talented Canadian arrives at this week’s event on the heels of two consecutive top 26 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a 13th place result at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship earlier this month.

Conners also finished sixth at the 2022 RBC Canadian Open.

Mackenzie Hughes $8,500

Since the beginning of March, Mackenzie Hughes has played eight events on the PGA Tour. In those eight tournaments just mentioned, Hughes accumulated five top 30 finishes, including a sixth-place result at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.

Similar to Shane Lowry and Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes has played well at this week’s PGA Tour event in the past. More specifically, Hughes finished eighth at the 2018 RBC Canadian Open.

David Lipsky $6,400

Last week, David Lipsky fired a third round 66 at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge on his way to an eventual ninth place finish.

Due to David Lipsky’s quality finish at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge I decided to take a hard look at the relevant player statistics for the tournament to see how Lipsky fared relative to the field.

Upon the completion of four rounds of competitive play at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, in relation to the field, David Lipsky ranked first in strokes gained approach (10.7), third in strokes gained tee to green (9.3), first in GIR (greens in regulation-70.8%), 16th in driving accuracy (62.5%) and third in total birdies made (17).

In my opinion, David Lipsky presents the best fantasy value of any golfer on this slate at the low Draftkings price of only $6,400.

Additional Golfers I like to perform well in the first round (Draftkings price noted): Alex Noren $10,000: Adam Scott $9,000: Adam Hadwin $8,800: Erik Van Rooyen $8,400: Kevin Tway $7,500: Patton Kizzire $7,100: Troy Merritt $6,800.
