Dominik Szoboszlai sends Liverpool fans message on hamstring injury
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has assured fans that his recovery from a hamstring injury "won't take long" after being ruled out of this week’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.
Szoboszlai suffered the problem during Liverpool’s first Game of 2024 – the 4-2 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League – and was forced off just over an hour into the contest.
The Hungarian missed the FA Cup third round win against Arsenal on Sunday and will again be absent when Fulham arrive at Anfield in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening. But he appears optimistic that his overall recovery will be relatively short.
"I'm getting better," Szoboszlai told M4 Sport at an awards event in his homeland on Monday night. "The first Game of the year didn't go as planned [for me], but it won’t take long and I'll be back."
English Football's winter break kicks in for Liverpool after Wednesday night, affording the Reds ten clear days before they are due to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on 21 January.
The hope for Szoboszlai is that he could be available again by that time, with manager Jurgen Klopp commenting in the wake of the New Year's Day injury: "We will see. After [Arsenal and Fulham], hopefully, he might be back."
Szoboszlai has made a significant impact at Liverpool since his £60m transfer from RB Leipzig, part of a much needed midfield rebuild at Anfield during a summer in which Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were all sold or released.
The 23-year-old was joined by Alexis Mac Allister, whose arrival from Brighton could be worth up to £55m over time, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch. Liverpool didn't strengthen any other area of the pitch, but it seems to be working as the Reds top the Premier League table 20 games in.
