Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle: Player ratings as Eagles hold Champions League hopefuls
Neither side could find a winner at Selhurst Park on Saturday night as Crystal Palace kept out top four chasers Newcastle to earn a point.
The visitors created the better chances throughout the contest but couldn't find a breakthrough against a resolute Palace defence despite the best efforts of Joelinton, Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak.
Newcastle are up to third in the Premier League, ahead of Manchester United on goal difference having played a Game more, while Palace are 12th with their winless streak in the league now at four Games.
Joelinton's half volley deflected off Tyrick Mitchell to send Vicente Guiata scrambling, but the Spaniard did well to clear the shot away from danger. Palace were quiet and Chris Richards' off-target header from a set piece was as close as they came in the first half.
Wilson spurned a wonderful opportunity after the break. The England striker had a free header ten yards out but could only divert a powerful shot straight at Guaita.
Palace did manage to test Magpies goalie Nick Pope later on, with substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta seeing his drive from 12 yards palmed to safety.
A Kieran Trippier cross found Alexander Isak, but despite finding space the Swede couldn't generate enough power on his header. The visitors' relentless pressure came to an end at full time, taking their unbeaten run to 15 consecutive league matches.
