It’s a goodie Wednesday night from the City of Brotherly Love as The Philadelphia 76ers — owners of the NBA’s current longest win streak — host the rival Boston Celtics.

Boston was the last remaining undefeated team in the Association before falling to the Timberwolves in its last time out, and now it'll look to get back in the win column.

How much do you value this season’s small sample size vs previous history? Where you land will likely determine how you bet on any Jayson Tatum odds on Wednesday night. In this instance, I'll be targeting his points total.

Boston’s franchise guy has been dynamite through the first six games of the season, cracking the 30-point plateau in all but one game. However, he has been good but not great when facing the Philadelphia 76ers. Tatum has broken the 30-point plateau just once in the last 10 matchups and has gone sub-20 in three straight games.

Under Doc Rivers, Philly did a solid job of making life difficult for him, as he has shot under 42% from the field in seven of the last 10 meetings. First-year head coach Nick Nurse has shown in the past he’s not afraid to pull out any type of defense to slow down a star (hello, box-and-1!). Since taking over the reins in Philly, the Sixers are Top 4 in field-goal defense, holding teams to 44.5%.

Tatum’s playoff performance against the 76ers was a ride unto itself, with his output swinging from extremes to outright struggles. While he ended on a high note with a 51-point bomb in Game 7, in the previous five games he shot 37.9% from the field and averaged just 16.1 points.

The Boston Celtics roster re-makeup seems to be designed to make things easier offensively for Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and additions like Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday have Boston equipped to function if Tatum struggles.

The only concern I have is the fact Derrick White is a game-time decision, as he’s been out the past two games for the birth of his second child. Even then, as great as Tatum has been, I think this is the second game of the year he fails to crack 30.

Let’s stick with the Boston All-Star to build a solid three-leg same-game parlay.

Tatum had a season-high five steals against the Timberwolves, breaking a streak of three straight games without a swipe. He’s had at least one steal in three of the last four regular-season meetings with the Sixers, and seven times in the last 10. In the postseason, he stripped the Sixers at least once in six games of their series that went the distance. 

All he needs is one to make you a winner.

And while we’re working on the assumption he may struggle some — I mean, at least my best bet hopes so — Tatum has proven to contribute in other ways. Despite his shooting woes in the playoffs against Philly, he averaged 11.1 rebounds per game and went for double-digit boards in five of the seven games. 

Tatum has also grabbed at least nine boards in six of the last eight regular-season meetings against the Sixers.

Celtics vs 76ers spread and Over/Under analysis

This line has consistently stayed with Boston as the betting favorite, but not by much. The opening line was C’s at -1, but it’s lengthened at some books to as high as -2, with plenty of books settling in the middle at 1.5 points for the Celtics.

Philadelphia has been a bettor's delight against the spread, carrying a perfect 6-0-0 mark ATS this season. Boston is just 2-2-2 ATS on the year. This game features two of the top-four scoring teams in the NBA, with Boston dropping 123.5 points per contest, and Philly putting up 121.5. 

So, how has the total that started at 225.5 only managed to climb up three points? Because these teams can defend. The Sixers allow 108.3 points per game — sixth best in the NBA — while Boston allows 109 ppg (eighth).
